The Molitor thread has gotten too long. To make it simple, if the Twins don't play at least .500 ball for the rest of this season, he should be fired on Oct. 1 period. There is no excuse for going into the tank just because playoffs are out of the question. Even the Yankees are vulnerable now and the bulk of the schedule is against the weak Central plus the Rangers. Only the A's pose a real competitive threat. As far as I am concerned, Molitor is 0-0 starting today and he has about 1 month to prove that he is even interested in winning baseball games. For some reason, I don't think he really cares that much one way or the other along with the rest of Twins' management/ownership. I know..the players play the games. I don't want to hear it. If the Twins can't at least split the rest of 2018, its on the manager.

Reusse's suggestion for the 2019 Twins Marketing Slogan
Number3 replied to USAFChief's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The shame is that its still 1 month to go in 2018 and the topic is 2019. How about finishing above .500 in 2018 after a nice finish including winning a series against the Yankees? How about simply fielding a competitive team in 2019, getting a new manager with some fire in his belly and going out and winning games? -
Week in Review: Mauer Passes Carew
Number3 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"By no means Mauer passing Carew as second best in the Hits parade under a Twins' uniform puts him in a Hall of Fame discussion..." Ditto, ditto and ditto. Truly hard to believe that Mauer passing Carew is even deemed worthy of a thread title. Only took him 3 more years to do it. Maybe Charlie Sheen actually posted that lol. I wonder how much more Mauer made per hit than Carew did. Probably 10 times as much minimum.- 42 replies

We Are All Witnesses, Right?
Number3 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Joe Mauer was, and I guess still is, an amazing overall athlete with great God given talent. He either struck out only once or maybe never in his entire high school career. Anyone with that kind of talent is going to pile up high ranking team stats if he stays on that team for his entire career. Twins record in the Mauer era 1080 wins, 1155 losses. Since the big contract 647 wins, 776 losses. Mauer never made an effort in off season to maintain his early success and figured he could just show up and play and do ok. Winning was obviously never a priority with Joe and being a team leader obviously was not. At a size for a football tight end he is content to flare balls to left to keep the average and obp up and maybe run into one every now and then. Talent - A Effort and determination to be great and and actually improve in his prime years - F Joe was/is and underachiever who could have been great but settled for good. -
Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading Molitor
Number3 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"I don't see how anyone can describe Molitor as anything but a disaster and if he's back next year I'll start calling for Levine and Falvey's heads.I don't see how anyone can describe Molitor as anything but a disaster and if he's back next year I'll start calling for Levine and Falvey's heads." I would go one notch higher than "disaster" but I totally agree, and always have, that Molitor is not a good manager, especially for a perpetual work in progress like the Twins. Hall of Fame players don't make good managers for multiple reasons. Managers of marginal teams especially need to project a winning mind set from the dugout and be the face of the team's spirit. They need to be animated and demonstrate that they are in every game and in it to win. Molitor could be a mannequin in the dugout and no one would notice the difference. Twins under current regime seem to want managers who simply don't make waves. Just be quiet, take your $2mil salary, and go home at the end of the season.- 295 replies

MIN 5, CHW 2: Wild Final Inning Puts Twins Over
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Hey, they aren't on the bottom anymore." Unfortunately because the other teams have gotten worse, not that the Twins have gotten better. Its more and more obvious that these big long term contracts and signing bonuses to rookies are detrimental to the sport. Baseball is now played by the bean counters as much as the players on the field. See Washington Nats who threw in the towel after declaring themselves WS champs in March for the 3rd year in a row.. Then the players circle the wagons around management because they know who cuts the checks and they want to play this out as long as they can. Is it so bad to not be in the post season when you can go home with $millions to spend?- 13 replies

Sure, the Twins "could" content next year. All that will have to be resolved are a few simple issues. 1) starting pitching 2) bull pen 3) position players 3) bench 4) MANAGER How about fielding the best team you can and just going out and playing ball and trying to win every game, starting with the White Sox tonight? Said it before and will say it again, the biggest ruse in big time sports, including the college game, is "Wait til next year".

Week in Review: Hitting a Stride
Number3 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
LA Vikes fan posted- "......The FO thinks we can contend next year......." Who is "we" and "contend" for what? Where is the source that the Twins' FO thinks the Twins can contend (I guess for AL Central) next year? The Twins will have more unknowns heading into next year than they did this year and will be coming off a worse record than they did this year. I can't believe they would go out on such a limb unless it is purely the marketing department saying this. "Get your 2019 season tickets now while they last!" BTW, the upcoming Oakland series should be a good bench mark and the A's have gone about the business of winning baseball games now instead of always in the future.- 33 replies

I am for sure, if not still a winning season. The FO can't possibly try to tank the season any more than they have so just settle down and go out and win baseball games. Gardenhire "hates second place" so no need to worry about the Tigers. Maybe September baseball can still be fun since the geniuses have run out of towels to throw in.

It figures. The current Twin with the highest batting average, no one wants to keep. That is the state of the Twins in a nutshell. Same bunch with a pipe dream of signing Daniel Murphy at age 33 says Forsythe at age 32 is too old. Twins shuffle the deck more often than a Vegas black jack dealer.
-
As usual, these issues are made much more complicated than they need to be. Byron Buxton is a Major League baseball player. If he is healthy enough he should be playing at the Major League level. If he goes home he could be hurt walking down the stairs. Chances of getting hurt in the minor leagues just as great. He needs the competition. Bring him up and let him play with nothing at stake. If he gets hurt again, better find out now that in April, 2019.

Q&A: Offseason Plans, Molitor's Status and Much More
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1) Murphy will never play for the Twins. 2) Over the course of a season, managers have a huge impact on the final results. Molitor is obviously just along for the ride and assumes no responsibility for anything. Obviously the players play the game but the manager must provide the glue, the team attitude and consistency from game to game to say nothing of decisions that do directly determine the outcome of enough games to make a huge difference. 3) The notion that the front office has any plan at all is comical.- 28 replies

BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's
Number3 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another meaningless move in a now meaningless season for, unfortunately, a meaningless franchise for the foreseeable future. Why did they make the off season moves they made if they were going to throw in the towel 2/3 of the way through this season? Did they expect Cleveland to roll over and play dead? I don't think the Twins ownership/FO/manager has a clue what they are trying to accomplish. Any evidence to the contrary please identify. -
Molitor may "go" on his own but he will never be sent. He fits the mold of a Minnesota Twins manager perfectly. Rapidly becoming one of the worst run franchises in professional sports. Watching the Atlanta Braves beat Washington last night was so refreshing. Braves have a parade of fresh faces plus a real veteran first baseman in Freeman who can flat play the game. My guess is that every one of these players, including Freeman at some point, were probably available to the Twins. Again, where is the 2016 number 1 pick in all of MLB and why is his name never mentioned in 2019 plans, if not 2018? Will he even be called up during the ridiculous roster expansion in September? Never could understand that since that is crunch time and should be decided by the core team; not exhibition teams.

Letter to season ticket holders
Number3 replied to Otto von Ballpark's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The best job in all of professional sports is Minnesota Twins Manager. Job description; "No pressure, no expectations, no performance standard of any kind. Requirements-simply show up and don't make waves.. Salary $2mil per year plus huge expense account, hotel suites, private jet for travel, many other benefits, 3 year contract guaranteed. Hall of fame playing credentials considered but not required. -
CLE 10, MIN 0: Who Needs Chris Gimenez?
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Al I know is that August/Sep this year could have still been fun and has been made totally irrelevant by the FO. Grapefruit games in March are more interesting than these last two months will be. On to football and who cares whether the Twins beat the Indians in the rest of this series with the lineups they will send out there. Also, what is one good reason why Buxton should not be called up immediately and told not to crash into walls or take chances on the bases. Just work on his hitting against actual Major League pitching. If he is too fragile to risk that he should be released. -
My wish list for the last 55 games (2018 edition)
Number3 replied to AlwaysinModeration's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The continuation of the "Lets play GM board" continues. Meanwhile the basic idea of going out and beating KC tonight is not even an issue while teams like Tampa, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and others simply go out and try to win baseball games. The Twins have their fans duped into thinking that there is some mystical season in a future year (unspecified) when everyone will sing kum bah yah and the Twins will cruise into a World Series championship. Think about it. -
Per Dave the Dastardly, "Chemistry starts at the top." The Twins not only do not have a culture of winning, there is and has not been even an expectation of winning. Ownership/management, for whatever reason, places winning baseball games very low on the priority list even though the business they are in is MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. Last year the players got fired up enough after dumping Kintzler, to have a great August and the manager gets credit for it. This year the players should rightfully say, fine, we get to go home at the end of September and who cares what happens between now and then. If that is bad chemistry the blame goes right to the top and the manager they have just plays along. This team needs to be sold and bought by someone who actually cares about the game of baseball.

Deadline Deal: Twins Trade Brian Dozier to Dodgers
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have absolutely no curiosity about anything the Twins do at this point for the foreseeable future. They have totally wasted the past 9 years since 2010 and NOW they go into rebuild mode. I am curious to see how Dozier does in a truly competitive environment where the team and fans actually have high expectations. That should be interesting. Pressure is one thing he never had to worry about playing for the Twins. -
Twins will never fire Molitor because the Twins don't fire managers because they only hire a manager who promises not to make waves and simply does as told. Exception may have been last year when Molitor might have been fired for winning but then he got MOY so firing him was out the window. He won't make the same mistake this year and if they beat Cleveland again tonight he will probably have a team meeting to review the "plan".

Week in Review: Selling and Losing Steam
Number3 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It truly is amazing that the Minnesota Twins' ownership/management has no apparent interest in winning baseball games. The only people at Target for the home stand should be those on the payroll and fans of the visiting teams.- 19 replies

MIN 2, BOS 1: Gibby the Great
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Amazes me that this thread, after winning 4 straight from Jays and Red Sox, quickly evolves into whether or not the Twins should trade Gibson or whomever. Right! Trade a pitcher who you have stayed with all these years, who has always had good "stuff" and is just now finding himself at age 30. Just go back out there tonight and try to win another game. Even splitting the series at Boston is fine; anything better is great. Then guess who comes to Target. Forget trades and just play ball. Too many vicarious GMs on this board.- 148 replies

MIN 5, TOR 0: All-Star, Indeed
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This afternoon is possibly the biggest start of any of those starting pitchers for the 2018 campaign. If Santana can equal his early 2017 form, the Twins do have a chance to at least hang around and keep things interesting. -
MIN 8, TOR 3: Twins Cruise Over Toronto
Number3 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Continuing the perplexing trend of losing to weaker teams and then playing like true playoff contenders against the better teams. Next 8 games are against Jays, Red Sox and Indians. Should be interesting and may be the season. -
Does the Front Office owe us an explanation?
Number3 replied to curt1965's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The first question to ask ahead of the topic question is, "Who is the front office accountable to?" Answer; "It ain't the fans in this organization." I am more and more convinced that the Twins, hiding behind the excuse of "small market = can't really compete" does not have winning as a primary objective. Ownership sees the Twins as an entertainment business whose main goal is to provide a spring/summer activity in a pleasant environment. As long as the turnstiles keep spinning enough and the TV revenue and other sharing revenue is enough, they are content. Main qualification to play for and/or manage such a team? Don't complain. If the players care about winning, its up to them as they showed last year.
