  1. NONESENSE! Referring to the title. They are imo why you go for it. End of silly excuses.
  2. We have to bid to actually be outbid.. Happy for Dobs tough! Seriously second guessing going the series on Labor Day weekend.. I tried really really hard but found spending $100's of dollars (me and two friends) to go to a game far to cost inefficient...So due to budget constraints..and a lack of ownership will to put a championship caliber team on the field I may need to cancel such an extravagant expenditure of profits.....
  3. After the last year and a half of reading that we need to trade or DFA Vazquez..this is very disappointing...He plays good to great defense, hit's in the 8 or 9 spot..Is So expensive compared to Sean Murphy's 9 mil per for a .213 BA, OR Jame McCann's 12.1 mil and his .211 average. AND now he helps win a game or two...Jeez...Next thing you know that guy we should have traded last year..yeah you Miranda..Is going to a good too great player...Where to focus my frustration next???
  4. I wasn't a big fan of the Lopez trade. Mostly due to lack of a track record of success. But that was a big need on the team, so I get it. I liked the Mahle trade a lot and if another Mahle type is available the deadline I'd be all for doing that type of trade again. How many 1B, DH and LF prospects do we need? Povich may turn out to be a back-end starter. That may be the one guy that stings a little. I'll take a starter, even with injury worries, for blocked prospect 10 time out of 10. The rest seem like depth trades, No Andew Millers on that list.
  5. Nardi would be my choice. I have had an eye on him for the last couple seasons. If I remember right, he was a top 10 Marlin prospect and borderline top 100 one as well. I know his ERA doesn't stand out this season, but 11.1/k per 9, 2.7 bb per and .5 HR per 9. There's a lot there to like and a longer track record of good to great numbers. Cruz is interesting. Like an above poster. I think the Reds may be too close to completing to part with an arm with more than a year of control. I'm kind Meh on the rest due to salary, prospect cost or they just don't seem like much of an upgrade over what is already here.
  6. Congratz to Brooks Lee. Find a locker you like and stay there for 7-15 years!
  7. The problem is there isn't that glaring need. I expect a trade or two. But not for anyone we are focused on or in high demand. Someone to deepens the BP or add to the bench/platoon depending on injuries...looking at you Royce....Buck...but otherwise minimal adds with A or less prospects or 40 man borderline guys.
  8. As a whole there is a huge number of sophomores struggling. Take a look at Corbin Carrol's numbers. I wonder if last year, with the rule changes, if the rookies had an advantage that they no longer have. Most of the big-name rookies this year are struggling. If I had to guess, the veterans have caught up and are now making the rookies and sophomores take their lumps.
  9. 122 Comments. Just too many to catch up. IMO...The nit picking seems excessive. Let me explain before you hit reply/respond... 1st and foremost the FO was instructed to reduce payroll by what appears to be 30%. It was made public, that I would say was a mistake. So now the FO is in a position where they need to part ways with players, and everyone knows it...On top of that the most obvious team for Polanco was IMO and always was the Mariners. They're cutting payroll as well. IDK, maybe I missed something here? How from that position do you get fair value? It's seems like a recipe for a trade that neither team is thrilled with. But necessary for both teams. Twins due to payroll and mariners due to payroll and to hopefully solve their black hole at second they've had for years. Once the shoe dropped, in public, that payroll was going down substantially. Winning trades was probably not going to happen. We get DeScalfani (and his salary) in order to get a borderline top 100 prospect, BP help and salary relief. That by itself seems like a reasonable return considering the circumstances. Santana, He has been traded for the last 2 season at the trade deadline. Should he be your starting 1B probably not. But he has been a player for years now other teams have wanted on their team in the fall. That should say something. One last thing. Margot's salary is being mostly paid for by other teams. If I remember right the Twins are paying 4 mil of 10mil? For a veteran, 4th OF/platoon player. That's probably about market value. I know that's a lot. but hey I've been quiet this offseason... Add one more thing...Thanks a lot mother nature for the 6-12 inch's of snow between now and tomorrow morning...Anyone want a ticket for tomorrow's game? 3rd base line...
  10. My bad, that was meant for a different post. Wasn't meant to be a response to yours.
  11. The Diamond backs fans say what? Also, the Padres and Mets fans say what? You can have. Fernado Tatis, Mookie Betts, Aroon Judge, Juilo Rodriguez (your welcome to add to this list) BUT if the pieces don't fit together or one piece is missing can you complete the puzzle? The accumulation of a team's part and pieces with a championship. Not signing or trading for a single player in February. I like this team. Let's roll with it and tackle the issues around August 1st.
  12. I honestly don't see what the hub bub is all about... Both player best season using OPS+ is 104. Best OBP and SLUG are within 10 points. MAT would not take 4 Mil to play here this season and I can't blame him. As for the prospects neither may turn out or one/both could be the next Cory Seager and the other Fernado Tatis. I'll win money on the Vikings winning a super bowl before I'll plan on either turning out like that. I should add if they are or were expected to be platoon players how much does their defense really matter?
  13. This flashed by on my home page and thought some may want to read. I was caught by surprise and good for him. i'm rooting for him. Angels All-Star Free Agent Signing Showed Up to Camp Nearly 60 Pounds Lighter (msn.com)
  14. I like this trade. Miller has a lot to like. I just don't know how you get him in Minnesota with Correa, Lee, Lewis and some might say De Andrade in front of him. The Twins traded from a minor league depth to fill a need for this season and possibly next. Also, may be a best case for Miller with a much clearer path to the big leagues now.
  15. Exciting player and prospect. I'll wait till after this season to order the bronze statues for target field. Don't get me wrong, Buxton and Maurer comps apply no doubt. Let's let the kid (young man) play. Prospect ranking are fun and pump me up about Twins prospects but overzealous expectations can easily crush a player's confidence. I'm sure I'll get some down votes..of hands..but as I said. Let's let the kid (young man) play.
  16. I'm going to verve off from your thought process and throw a couple of names you haven't mentioned. Whit Merrifield as a Free Agent and Dylan Carlson as a trade target. Merrifield could split time with Julien at second base and played every OF position last year. Carlson has played every OF position, Has 3? years of control and crushes lefties (check his career stats) I think it was 135 OPS+ against lefties. As for a starter, I think that ship has sailed till Aug 1st. There's a lot that can happen between now and then. Also, a lot of prospects that may shine or crash and burn on the pitching side.
  17. Winokur is probably my favorite pick out of last year's draft. Yes, Jenkins has the highest ceiling. But a 6'5" SS/CF?? That's an athlete I want to put some chips on. He's no Brent Rooker, more like a: James Wood Minor Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com There's very a long way to go but boy-o-boy. The tools look like they are there.
  18. I like Martin as a player that makes the 26 man out of SP. #6 is a bit high for me, but all the parts are there for it to be the right spot for him, maybe even a little low. I've seen a few talk about E Rod's .400 OBP in A and A+ ball being a rare thing. Martin, after a slow start, ended the season in SP with a .387 OBP. I believe that translates well to MLB. No, he may never be a 25 homer guy., but a 10-15 hr, 30+ doubles, and a few triples guy, with maybe .280 BA, .380 OBP and .400 slug with 20-30 steals is a what? 2.5-4 WAR player? That's a player you want as many as you can get on your team. Here's hoping he gets there.
  19. It has been a disappointing off season. There is a big difference between spending because your team (the Royals) has been so bad a developing their own talent and the Twins filling a hole or two with a free agent, The Royals have Bobby Witt and well that's about it for young upcoming players. You kind of have to spend to be completive at that point.
  20. I'm going to air on the positive side. 1st I've always liked Carlos Santana. He's just a baseball player. Will he replace Polanco's production? If he gets anywhere near close the Twins have an injury riddled season. It does make trading Kepler more of a possibility. Although I still think that's a low chance. Kirillof in left, Wallner in right and some combination of Buxton/Castro/Gordon/Martin in center isn't a bad outfield..I hope.. All in all it's a good signing. With good and bad to it but I lean to the good side.
  21. hmm.. You can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket...
  22. The article on BTR made it sound like Burnes has zero interest in a Glasnow type of trade/extension. There's a draft pick to be had if you QO him and he signs elsewhere. But would that recoup enough to make it worthwhile for a rental? IDK
  23. I would love to have Garver back in a DH/3rd catcher type of spot, but we have this CFer and 2nd baseman that may end up in the DH spot. Tough call but I think I'd be forced to pass.
  24. I'd be thrilled with any of the three starters mentioned. I like BTV for ideas on trades, but I feel they are a bit off on their values on starting pitchers. My point is I think the three trades proposed are likely quite a bit on the light side. I don't see parting with Lee or Julien as a good way to fix the pitching depth or bringing in a #2 pitcher. Polanco alone won't get that either. Adding Raya or Festa would affect late 2024 and 2025. Trading Kepler would seem to lead to a lot of crossed fingers in the OF. Unfortunately, spending to fix the issue seems to out of the question. Frustrating offseason for this Twins fan...
