Great trade. Now add Hoffman and a starter. Maybe a RH bat and see what happens.

Cole Sands' Frustrating Season Ends With Elbow Surgery
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Well, SchNikes...He would have been a nice boost to the BP. Better now the August 30th, I guess? -
1st off I don't want to jinx it...but...The DP has been pretty dang good for a month now. I'd say they need to get a rental starter and a RH DP arm. Ray, Gausman or Rogers on the top end. Singer to maybe even Springs on the low end. Not looking for a no hitter here, just a 4.00 era and 60+ innings. I really don't want to part with any top 20 prospects for a 30% chance at a WC. Singer or Springs would be my preferred. Then I'd move Prielipp to the BP. 100-110 innings should be his max for the season. We need him next year as much or more then this season. I'd like to think in one inning Prielipp would land in the second tier. RH RP idk really who. I'd love to get Hoffman from Toronto. He would cost a bit in prospects. As for the Gray call up. It is, to me, one of those...there has to be more to it...My out of left field guess is once Emma finishes rehab he'll get the call and Gray with head back to St. Paul. Buxton hip is becoming a chronic issue, and Emma is a good CF. Just caught the walk off by Clemens! Go Twins!

How the Red Sox Changed Everything for the Twins
weitz41 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So, the Twins need to win the division or take 2nd place to maybe make the playoffs. Not all that much different than before -
Seattle, they're willing to move SP for bats. So do dice. Pardes. They're prospects don't fit the Twins needs today and likely next season. I'd take a not under water contract to make that happen. Tatis plus an arm or two. But not going to happen The Yankees are likely putting Warren in the BP because of too many starters. No chance. I think it's unlikely, but the Dodgers are my target. They really don't need to do anything. Just wait for guys to get healthy. So, I'll take a shot at Joe Ryan for Sirota, River Ryan and Jackson Ferris. We need one of the two pitchers to take on Ryans innings.

Well, someone had to go for the soft spot in Twins fandom....PAYROLL... I do like your argument Sam. I just think that savings is more a moot point than anything else. For me it's the lack of reinvestment that makes cutting payroll thoughts so toxic. Outside of Skubal, there's not many difference makers in the 2027 free agent market. There's a good starter or two and plenty of better BP arms. I highly doubt 10 mil or more in 2027 saved will affect the Twins free agent signings for 2027. It's just been an odd season. The AL East isn't really all that dominate, The AL West teams may be worse than the AL centrals. The Red Sox and Tigers look like they've woke up. It's just not the time to waste recourses on a chance at 83 wins. I'm for most of the trades you suggest. I'd hold onto Royce. Trade the rentals. They might fetch a BP arm or two for 2027. Ryan only if it's 2 top 100 prospects plus. Promote some of the AAA guys. Play it out, they could still make the playoffs. 2027 be in it for a WC, 2028 be in it for the division.

Would the Twins Be Better Off Trading Royce Lewis?
weitz41 replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why? It's not like we have someone knocking on the door to play 1b. he's got what? 1 1/2 months playing that spot. Way way too early to judge if that is the right spot for him. Most teams are looking for RH bats with power. AH, a recent post has us looking at RH OF's. On top of that his trade value is down and we'd then need more RH bats and 1B if they did trade him. Hold...better days are coming for Royce and the Twins for that matter. -
What the Twins actually need is a starter (Emerson Hancock) a 7-8 inning BP arm (A.J Minter) and Isidor's Bane (Lord of the Rings ref) or instead on the one ring...A dump truck full of good luck. Thomas would be a nice add though.

Twins Daily's Top-20 Prospects Gets a Post-Draft Shakeup
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The current top 15 looks like by far the best I've seen in a long long time. Most are in AA or higher and the ones that aren't have big upside. I realize some won't work out. But there is a lot of quality and quantity.- 66 replies

Is Zebby Matthews's Future in the Rotation?
weitz41 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not there yet but am leaning that way as well. To many hits on pitchers counts and homer issues same as Varland. He just needs a little more of something. 🤷♂️ More ride or rise on his FB? More deception in his delivery? Just middle middle and way too often. 🤷♂️ BP may be the answer, may also make him a what could have been. -
Wallner is the next Rooker only LH. IMO. The Twins don't have a spot for a full-time DH with Buxton likely needing that spot on the roster. Yes, I know about Bell. Most AAA players see at least a .100-.150 point drop in their ops when coming to the majors. Jenkins .846 OPS says to me not quite ready yet. Close but not yet

I agree. But then I look at the other one's minor league career numbers and say maybe he is the right guy till E Rod can manage to get and stay healthy. Wallner has a better OPS but the SO rate...well yeah.

Isn't about where his in now? Don't get me wrong. I'm a little skeptical about Roden as well. But don't forget there is/was Larnach, Wallner, Martin and technically still Keacshall and Clemens. Between him and a 26-man spot. That's a lot of hurdles and yet here he is an old man at 26 and on the team.

The poor corpse of the Varland trade..I mean, can we kick that damn horse a few more times? Varland was a borderline set up guy in the 2025 pen. Jax was always the 1st choice to bridge to Duran. Is the Bluejays BP coach on the Twins staff this year and last year to get him to where he is now? There are so many variables to players having success. CAN we please move on. Roden has 21 AB in MLB this season. Rojas has pitched a total of 19.1 MLB innings this season. Abel 20.1 innings in MLB. Outman is a part of the fire sale? Stewart has managed what? 20 innings since the trade? If you can't move on there's a gallon of sour milk in the fridge, help yourself....

I'm firmly in the don't waste the prospects column for this season. But I too have the itch to hope they try and go for it. Just in a much smaller way then 2 of the 3 you mentioned. Luis Garcia would be a nice add to the team. I don't think I'd part with GG for him but Gallager and say Rosario or DeBarge. A little buy and a little sell is probably the best way to go this season. IMO

Why not a 3-way trade for Peralta, Gausman and Hoffman? Going to cost a top 10 prospect and the Pohlad's will want some $ headed to the Twins. Go big or go home. I think that fits.

I agree on the top 4. As for the others... I'm far less certain I'd be will to move any of the others for anyone without years of control. I get it, it's been a much more enjoyable season than I expected. If you're going to keep most or all the band together and take a shot at it. I'm trading from the lower 1/3 of the prospect list. 1-2 rental BP arms should fit in that range. Now if you're looking for another starter and a nonrental. OK there's a name or two I'd consider. Because the name is popular on the site. Let's say Reid Detmers. I'd be willing to move Tait or E rod, due to redundancy, plus lack of options for E Rod, I'd guess it'll take Matthews and at least one more from the 15-30 range as well. That's a pretty high price for a 25% chance to make it into the playoffs this season and a 10% chance to get through the WC round. Honestly, I'd rather reinforce the DP with rentals, take a shot at it with the current crew and save my bullets for next season. but that's just me.

I'm still excited about all three. They've all had down seasons. Maybe I'm making excuses for them... Gonzalez has actually improved his base numbers since April/May. I suspect working on 1B D is taking away from last year's focus on offence. It's his avenue to MLB with the current Twins team. So not too concerned. Tait. His big tool is coming through loud and clear. The power is legit and the hit tool...well let's hope. Not anything new. If the Twins were forced to pick Roch instead of Lackey, would we be talking about it? Hill. Not sure what to make of the BB deal this season. If I remember right, he was giving plenty of them last season. But a substantial increase this season. Too much tinkering? Hit a wall at A+. IDK..At least he's been mostly healthy unlike Soto. I read the E Rod stuff. I'm rooting for him. This health thing is becoming increasingly frustrating. He's got Juan Soto plate discipline and Buxton power. But a whole in his swing like Larnach against a leftie. Your guess is as good as mine.
