Well Cody that title is bound to get clicks and responses. I know so am I. Please excuse if I missed something. 2x cost + injury history and 2x Do you want a different job? Let's move on to players who may need a change of scenery. Still good. I clicked AND I responded.

If he has an option left, I'd bring him be back. I think the shady, no wait I'm hurt, may have saved his last option. Besides that, 1.4(Sportrac) to 1.8 (MLBTR)mil isn't bringing in someone with more upside. I also don't see a real need for a 40-man spot. They will add Raya and maybe Rosario. Remember this rule 5 class is the 5 round 2020 draft. If I have my count right after free agents, possible DFA's I think we're at 36/40. Then there's trade candidates Paddack and Castro. 1.8 mil for Kirlloff or Jay Jackson? Which seems like I better use or higher upside of that $?

I'm in the boat of bring in 1 or 2 low-cost veteran's and if they don't pan out DFA and replace with Dobber, Henriquez, Winder and Headrick. If they still need answers MAYBE Canterino of Prielipp are ready for the BP, more likely Raya or Morris can break in there. There could be others like Stewert and Blewitt out there on minor league deals. Seems like a numbers game. The more options the better. One thing I been looking at is once Ryan went on the IL and Matthews, Festa and SWR were all starting it seems the BP got worn down. I looked at Sept starts for those three and not one start over 5 innings. Although the offense was atrocious, I feel that played a part in the falling apart of the season.

I ask whoever reads this post..How would you have filled the 2025 roster out in May, June or July even August of the 2024 season? My point is are we making WAY too much of the late season collapse? I think most are. Now if you need some spending money for the RH OF or a 5th or 6th starter. I would move Paddack 1st and go with one of Festa or Mathews in his place and spend the 7.5 mil on a platoon RH OFer and if I can pull it off a veteran BP arm. If I need more then I need to look at Castro and Vasquez. I don't think that is necessary. I definitely find the trade one of Lopez, Ryan or Ober as completely counterproductive. Falvey isn't looking for higher draft choices with a possible ownership change. Run it back with a few changes to the fringes. Expect better results than complete regression from the young players, Hope for better health for Correa and another 100 games from Buxton and you're in the playoffs Who thought the Vikings would be 5-1? Who thought the Twins would go 9-18 in September? Relax. Its entertainment. Not your investment portfolio.

What Was the Point of Signing Carlos Correa?
weitz41 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree, but "right sizing" payroll makes sense if you used that one-time payment on the team and knew that the RSN deal was kaput. -
What Was the Point of Signing Carlos Correa?
weitz41 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article. Not that is upends the general, what was the point, but the BAMTech streaming platform sale was Nov 2022 and the Twins received 30+ mil? from that and signed CC Jan 2023 to the current contract. That may have increased payroll in 2023 to being a record payroll as well. Not defending by any means, but that is another piece that may have played a part in the 2024 payroll reduction. Something I think many have forgotten. No this isn't me providing cover for the Pohlads.. -
I liked the stability of having the Pohlad's running the show. This last off season and season will probably make most feel like "good riddance". I'm not so certain it is a good thing. Buck, Correa and Lopez contracts are all due to the Pohlad's. Will the next owner pay for stars? Will the next owners prioritize profits? So, I'm probably 50/50 on the outcome. Unless some billionaire wants something, their buddies doesn't have. Then I would be thrilled.

Which Catcher Should the Twins Trade This Offseason?
weitz41 replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Neither..To answer the topic question. Yeah, yeah, I know his offense has been terrible. Paying half his salary to move him for Jair Camargo likely similar offense and worse defense makes little to no sense. Jeffers? Now? NO. So, it's a loose loose situation. Ride it out..Hopefully Ovilars is ready late 2025 or opening day 2026. I just don't see this burn it to the stud's mentality from Twins fans. We've had terrible luck with health and growth wise in 2024. Stay the course. Has everyone forgotten 2022? -
Twins Announce GM Thad Levine Will Not Return for 2025
weitz41 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
for me these two comments are on point. Does anyone remember the using Mauer's contact as an excuse to NOT spend? I do.. Plus, another season of 0 or - payroll will not enhance his resume. TY for all you work in bringing the Twins into the 21st century of baseball. Sad to see you go but under the current circumstances I can't blame you.- 122 replies

Oh, forgot to include this.. Saying we are going to right size payroll. To me as an hourly employee is like saying I'm not working Mondays but expect my paycheck to not change...Sorry but it doesn't work that way...

I really don't want to cut the FO any slack on the last month and a half of this season. But let's be realistic. What? 100 maybe 120 games of good to great baseball. Unfortunately, it takes 162+. I agree that they have a part in this late season collapse. But really, it's IMO the payroll limits combined with regression and injuries put the kybosh to doing anything great at the end of the season. Players regress. Sophomore slumps happen. Anyone expecting all 2023 rookies to get only better is not being honest with themselves. Buxton playing 102 games. Awesome! But I read more complaints than anything. People...you run into a wall a full speed and see if you're going to work tomorrow...Man smash your shin into the coffee table trying to see that play and see if you're doing cartwheel's the next day. Planar Fascii..People can end up on short or even long-term disability with that. But we're paying too much for his 100+ games,,, Can you or I plan on our transmission going out? Wheel bearing failing out of know where? In the FO's case, can they have enough backups planed for hurricane Helene? AND drop payroll 25% Yes, they earned C's, D's and F's but probably never had a chance to score above a C..

We have to bid to actually be outbid.. Happy for Dobs tough! Seriously second guessing going the series on Labor Day weekend.. I tried really really hard but found spending $100's of dollars (me and two friends) to go to a game far to cost inefficient...So due to budget constraints..and a lack of ownership will to put a championship caliber team on the field I may need to cancel such an extravagant expenditure of profits.....

After the last year and a half of reading that we need to trade or DFA Vazquez..this is very disappointing...He plays good to great defense, hit's in the 8 or 9 spot..Is So expensive compared to Sean Murphy's 9 mil per for a .213 BA, OR Jame McCann's 12.1 mil and his .211 average. AND now he helps win a game or two...Jeez...Next thing you know that guy we should have traded last year..yeah you Miranda..Is going to a good too great player...Where to focus my frustration next???

I wasn't a big fan of the Lopez trade. Mostly due to lack of a track record of success. But that was a big need on the team, so I get it. I liked the Mahle trade a lot and if another Mahle type is available the deadline I'd be all for doing that type of trade again. How many 1B, DH and LF prospects do we need? Povich may turn out to be a back-end starter. That may be the one guy that stings a little. I'll take a starter, even with injury worries, for blocked prospect 10 time out of 10. The rest seem like depth trades, No Andew Millers on that list.

Nardi would be my choice. I have had an eye on him for the last couple seasons. If I remember right, he was a top 10 Marlin prospect and borderline top 100 one as well. I know his ERA doesn't stand out this season, but 11.1/k per 9, 2.7 bb per and .5 HR per 9. There's a lot there to like and a longer track record of good to great numbers. Cruz is interesting. Like an above poster. I think the Reds may be too close to completing to part with an arm with more than a year of control. I'm kind Meh on the rest due to salary, prospect cost or they just don't seem like much of an upgrade over what is already here.

Will the Twins Trade for a Mercenary?
weitz41 replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The problem is there isn't that glaring need. I expect a trade or two. But not for anyone we are focused on or in high demand. Someone to deepens the BP or add to the bench/platoon depending on injuries...looking at you Royce....Buck...but otherwise minimal adds with A or less prospects or 40 man borderline guys. -
Solutions for the Twins’ Slumping Sophomores
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As a whole there is a huge number of sophomores struggling. Take a look at Corbin Carrol's numbers. I wonder if last year, with the rule changes, if the rookies had an advantage that they no longer have. Most of the big-name rookies this year are struggling. If I had to guess, the veterans have caught up and are now making the rookies and sophomores take their lumps.- 11 replies

122 Comments. Just too many to catch up. IMO...The nit picking seems excessive. Let me explain before you hit reply/respond... 1st and foremost the FO was instructed to reduce payroll by what appears to be 30%. It was made public, that I would say was a mistake. So now the FO is in a position where they need to part ways with players, and everyone knows it...On top of that the most obvious team for Polanco was IMO and always was the Mariners. They're cutting payroll as well. IDK, maybe I missed something here? How from that position do you get fair value? It's seems like a recipe for a trade that neither team is thrilled with. But necessary for both teams. Twins due to payroll and mariners due to payroll and to hopefully solve their black hole at second they've had for years. Once the shoe dropped, in public, that payroll was going down substantially. Winning trades was probably not going to happen. We get DeScalfani (and his salary) in order to get a borderline top 100 prospect, BP help and salary relief. That by itself seems like a reasonable return considering the circumstances. Santana, He has been traded for the last 2 season at the trade deadline. Should he be your starting 1B probably not. But he has been a player for years now other teams have wanted on their team in the fall. That should say something. One last thing. Margot's salary is being mostly paid for by other teams. If I remember right the Twins are paying 4 mil of 10mil? For a veteran, 4th OF/platoon player. That's probably about market value. I know that's a lot. but hey I've been quiet this offseason... Add one more thing...Thanks a lot mother nature for the 6-12 inch's of snow between now and tomorrow morning...Anyone want a ticket for tomorrow's game? 3rd base line...

The Diamond backs fans say what? Also, the Padres and Mets fans say what? You can have. Fernado Tatis, Mookie Betts, Aroon Judge, Juilo Rodriguez (your welcome to add to this list) BUT if the pieces don't fit together or one piece is missing can you complete the puzzle? The accumulation of a team's part and pieces with a championship. Not signing or trading for a single player in February. I like this team. Let's roll with it and tackle the issues around August 1st.
