  1. A catcher who has all of these tools is a very rare player. We Twins fans were spoiled for many years having Mauer who was elite in all three areas as well as strong at working with pitchers. If with luck we can find an up-and-coming catcher who is satisfactory we should be happy.
  2. Give him a chance to start in AAA. If there's no room in the St. Paul rotation start him in AA. He needs some time to see what's there. Then depending on how things go make any appropriate moves.
  3. As is the case with every player in the organization, I hope he exceeds expectations. But his leash had better be fairly short.
  4. The Twins' schedule does not have as many off days in April as is typical. I could accept a 6-man rotation until the end of the month at the very latest, but after that it should go down to 5.
  5. Off topic, but I have to chime in with the best thing Jim Souhan ever said. He once described Matthew LeCroy as a baseball player trapped inside the body of a softball player.
  6. The Twins were actually pretty close to the league average with RISP.
  7. I don't believe any of Buck's injuries were the result of a chronic problem or "fragility". I think it's been mostly bad luck. That doesn't mean nothing can be done about it. As an example, last year's knee injury came as the result of a bad slide. The reason for that is there was going to be a close play at second and he wanted to arrive at the base at the earliest possible time. The reason the play was close is because he didn't hustle out of the box on a bloop hit. Had he done so he would not have incurred that injury.
  8. I guess not everything is free. *sigh* But that's OK. You get what you pay for.
  9. I don't know that stat, but we were 5-10 in extra inning games last year. So your memory probably does not exaggerate by much.
  10. It bears repeating: There are two seasons to every year--baseball season and waiting for baseball season. Welcome to the former and goodbye to the latter.
  11. If that's the case I'm fine with letting another team take that risk.
  12. I don't like the Manfred Man rule but I agree with your thinking. Following that logic, they should load the bases. If the goal is to make it easier for the teams to score runs then don't be half-assed about it.
  13. The one thing I can say in Hand's favor is that he's still only 32 -- 3 years younger than Caleb Thielbar. Don't know enough about his health history to comment whether his arm has enough left in it for him to become an effective major league pitcher. Maybe a minor league contract and let him prove himself in AAA. I wouldn't give him a roster spot unless a move to the majors is indicated.
  14. Found a stat that in 2019 56.9% of MLB home runs were solo shots. https://tbonesbaseball.com/why-solo-home-runs-are-on-the-rise-in-major-league-baseball/ You don't give a number but it sounds like the Twins were about average, maybe even a bit better than average, at hitting multi-run homers that season.
  15. Yeah, for a good part of the season the eventual Cy Young winner was our second best starter.
  16. Not as soon as you would be if you ate one every day.
  17. Can we please give up trying to categorize starting pitchers? I don't give two ****s whether someone on this site or at a major national sports outlet rates a particular pitcher an Ace, a 2, 3, 4, 5, or 47. Just find good pitchers, coach them to their best performance, and put them in the rotation.
  18. A brief internet search found that the over/under lines on the Twins' 2023 win total ranged from 80.5 to 84.5. This may not be "good" but I certainly wouldn't call it "bad". I do agree that the Twins have a high level of uncertainty. Two disclaimers: One, this is not close to a detailed analysis of the relative strengths of MLB teams on my part. Two, while betting lines are based on the analyses of knowledgeable people, they are also highly influenced by wagers placed or expected to be placed by bettors. Most fans tend to bet on their favorite teams and usually tend to have optimistic views of their favorite teams. Accordingly, in most cases the betting line will be set a bit higher than the casino experts' actual evaluations. I don't gamble on sports but if someone gave me money and told me I had to use it for a wager based on the above lines I would bet on the over for the Twins.
  19. That means you are saying the Twins are bad. I think it might have been better to use a different theme. Or no theme at all, just straight-up analysis.
  20. I've never been to this stadium. One person I know who has been there said it is like sitting in a giant coffee can.
  21. I don't know that I would describe playing the Sox and the Sox as a "bad" part of the schedule. Neither team finished over .500 and the Red Sox are thought by many to have a weaker team than last year.
  22. And the Twins can certainly sweep all the games.
  23. Losing body fat should do nothing but help a baseball player. Losing muscle mass is a different matter of course, but there's no reason that this should have happened with Miranda.
