  1. Another good article about a player that many of us didn't know much about. Thanks, and thanks again. Culpepper seems to be doing all the right things, and the biggest advantage he has is his name; that's just such a perfect baseball player name. Keep on climbing, kid!
  2. Are we so sure that he won't be back next year?
  3. Bednar and Keller would both be good additions, but that's MUCH TOO HIGH a price to pay for them.
  4. Well said, It's VERY tempting to keep guys like this as starters. Up until a year ago I was still hoping that they would try to keep Duran as a starter, but obviously he is firmly settled in the bullpen. For Canterino, I have no strong opinion either way at this point, but the bullpen certainly COULD be a pleasing option.
  5. As you said, Cruz had a great reputation among his fellow teammates and in the clubhouse. But I still find it a bit baffling that so many people shrug off his PED suspension. Maybe Cruz DID manage to "outrun" the suspension as you note, but what made him get off so easily from the steroid black cloud when you compare him to the likes of Bonds, Sosa, or A-Rod?
  6. Yes, that will be a problem. Okay, maybe a good problem to have, but something the Twins will need to deal with. At some point in the very near future some hard decisions will have to be made about all the MLB-ready players who are in the system, and which ones we want to keep at which positions. But at least we will have some good choices.
  7. I agree with what you and Nashvilletwin wrote regarding the starting rotation. I think this time around it will NOT benefit us to wait and see what the options are in January or February. We need to get at least one of the vacated spots (Gray and Maeda) re-signed or find another quality pitcher via trade or free agency. As the OP pointed out, we benefited greatly from the Gray and Lopez trades, so that may be our best option, but waiting until the snow melts won't cut it.
  8. Isn't that a roster of ex-Twins ?
  9. My first choice would be to go after Nola, but I don't think he or any of the other top tier pitchers would end up with the Twins. Targeting someone like Eduardo Rodriguez is more realistic.
  10. I always thought Laureano would turn into a really good player when he was with the A's, and he still might have some value, especially on defense. I'm also still a fan of Chargois as a bullpen arm.
  11. I'll be curious so see how Charlee Soto does when he finally throws some pitches. He's young, so I'm guessing he starts at the lowest A level, but don't think he'll move up any or at least too many levels the first year.
  12. The Twins were able to go through the entire 2023 season and only used two catchers, Ryan Jeffers and Christian Vazquez. That is not normal. Not only "not normal" that's almost heard of for a MLB team, let alone the Twins. And none of our catchers were forced to pitch either! But yeah, as so many others have already said, bring back Carmago somehow. Looks like he's ready for the next step, and if nothing else he'll be good insurance. Not sure about Enlow. So much promise, so I hate to give up on him, especially after 2 lost years.
  13. I know a lot of people on this board are down on Nick Gordon, but he strikes me as someone who could be a decent backup plan in center field if Buxton can't start. Otherwise, I'd be fine with having Taylor back on the team again.
  14. Good question. What is the status of Prielipp at this point? Will he be pitching in 2024?
  15. I was saying that in jest, poking fun at the old Twins development timeline that often resulted in top prospects making their MLB debut at older ages than the rest of the league. Or at least that's the way it always seemed to me. But for guys like Jenkins, if he looks ready at age 20, call him up!
  16. I wouldn't dismiss Solano simply because of his age. Guys like him, and Nelson Cruz, seem to be able to keep getting hits no matter how old they get. Of course Solano doesn't have the power of a Cruz, but he's still a versatile enough guy to put at other positions when needed. I understand the logic, or appeal, of using "in house" players, but I'd feel very comfortable going with a known player like Solano again.
  17. Still early days and a small sample size to base it on, but I'd be surprised if Jenkins can make it to AA at some point next season. Not saying that it's impossible, but we're still dealing with a guy fresh out of high school No matter how mature and focused he is at this point, that's still a huge jump. I certainly don't want to wait until he's 24 for a MLB debut, but slow and steady progress is fine by me.
  18. Good article, Those three players all show lots of promise. In addition to those guys, I was pleased with the progress of many others players in the system this year. As the song goes: the future is so bright, I gotta wear shades!
  19. I'll join the chorus in breathing a sigh of relief and very thankful that the surgeons didn't have to do more cutting than necessary. And thanks for the very detailed report, thus expanding my knowledge of surgical procedures and body parts!
  20. Thanks for those stats. I didn't realize he had been that fleet of foot in the minors. Gives me hope!
  21. I love to see players stealing bases (at least Twins players stealing bases!), but you are right, things like sac flies, hit and run, and safety squeezes can also be utilized more often. I'm an old school fan, so I love that sort of small ball.
  22. Does Julien really have the speed to be a stolen base threat? I honestly have no idea, just wondering out loud.
  23. Not an exciting bunch of choices, but oddly, I think Sano might have the most upside. Pitchers coming back from surgery like Odorizzi strike me as too risky. Hicks had a nice bounce-back stint with Baltimore, but we already have a bunch of outfielders that can do what he does. As some posters said, Sano at first base might not be too crazy an idea, depending of course on Kiriloff's status going into spring training, and what sort of deal you offer Sano, and double of course, what sort of shape he is in. Could by Joey Gallo redux, so I'd approach that plan with caution. But, I do like the idea of this article and if there truly ARE some ex-Twins who might help. I'd pass on the likes of Gibson and Cave (I'm still shocked he was on the Phillies post-season roster), and with Trevor May apparently retiring and Fulmer out for the year, not much is out there in the way of ex-Twins players. Of course if LaTroy Hawkins wants to try a comeback, I'm all in!
  24. Thinking about ex-Twins, Trevor May announced his retirement last week, after a very honest and expletive-laced bashing of the Oakland A's ownership. But Trevor ended up having a good season with the A's, and he's not that old, do we really think he's retiring for good?
  25. Very creepy news about Serafini. Eager to read more about his very weird and disturbing case.
