  1. Great. Thanks for activating the Twins Daily Axiom for tonight’s game: Lopez will give up 1-2 HRs on the changeup now.
  2. In his lineup construction he is platoon obsessed vs left-handed starters. And obsessed with alternating right-handed bats with left-handed bats when facing righties. The latter is laughabley ironic, since he aggressively pulls the left-handed bats when a lefty enters the game regardless. The only ‘new’ thing he does is…he’s willing to put low OBP, high ISO guys in the leadoff spot. Whatever you want to call his lineup construction approaches, they’re a triumph of sparkling brilliance compared to his in-game decision-making.
  3. That would be 25+ starts at more than 5 innings per start. I don’t see that this season. The following season? That would make him a number 3 or 4 in the season he turns 24…six years after they drafted him. That would be fine. But, to your point on Prielipp…2024 could have been his second (if not third) season of adding value in the pen. iMO, they’ve boxed themselves into a position where, if he can’t make that step, they’ve left significant value on the table taking so much time to make a call.
  4. “While the Twins don't necessarily have a need in the bullpen right now (don't let the first 10 games of the season dissuade you from that)” Then later… “…the Twins' bullpen isn’t particularly deep from the left side. After Danny Coulombe, the only other southpaw reliever on the 40-man roster is Kody Funderburk. Both of them are fine mid-to-low leverage options,…” So, which is it? The sentiment expresses in the first excerpt is absolutely confounding to me and inexplicably pervasive here.
  5. Remains wildly overrated offensively in these parts. And apparently, always will be. Meanwhile, he’s good overall, and does seem healthy.
  6. It’s the Marco Raya approach. I read a Twins official actually use the term recently in relation to Prielipp, (despite the denial by at least a couple writers on this site that Raya is being handled differently). You spend 5 years making sure you never stress the arm. Then, after 5 years, find that the arm can’t handle any stress. Brilliant.
  7. It was part of the plan to only pitch 8 innings tonight to rest the pen. Only thing that’s gone right this season!
  8. He’s being used as a platoon player. So… Best chance at a salvaged season is Lewis being that guy…playing 120 games and being really good. Seems like pipe dream right now.
  9. Houston is not your older brother’s Astros. They are ok…decent…not great by any stretch. Houston is 2-4 in games not against the Twins (all home games) Chicago is 1-5 in games not against the Twins. St. Louis is 1-5 in games not against the Twins. 4-14 vs league, 6-3 vs Twins. (And no…none have played the Yankees or Dodgers.) This isn’t “just one game”. It’s a bad baseball team playing really badly. The pitching isn’t as good as advertised, but probably will settle down and be decent. But even in the best scenario for the pitching, the defense will still be horrible. Really, really horrible. And the offense looks bottom half, as expected. The manager is part of the problem, not nearly all of the problem. But he’s been part of the problem for long enough, now. And nothing’s going to change without making a change at manager.
  10. By August, they will look back at 14k fondly…for any day of the week.
  11. Power out in the press box?? All outlets/platforms are stuck in the top of the 6th. Or someone needs to unplug the router.
  12. Paddock a mess in the 5th. But defense directly responsible for 2 of the 3 runs scored in that inning.
  13. Rocco’s pre-game spreadsheet must have had Paddock completing 5.
  14. Sands off to great start. Seems to have good command of at least 3 of his offerings…if not 4. His approach seems starter-like. Mixes 3 or 4 offerings right from the start. For instance, threw an 80 mph curve for a strike taken to get ahead today. “Average-ish” stuff really plays up when you consistently throw multiple offerings where you want to throw them.
  15. Balanced offense. They do nothing well.
  16. Raya? Raya was very good in the first, struggled in the second, and was a complete train wreck in the third. Saved by a bases loaded double play ball by Funderburk.
  17. If the season still started in April like it should, we’d be undefeated. I hope the schedule makers don’t cost us a perfect season.
  18. With a win here we would regain a share of first place in the mighty AL Central! Magic number would be down to 156.
  19. A true heat-check for any Twins pitcher… retiring Benintendi twice in a row.
  20. Heading into this game, Correa lead the club in average exit velocity and hard-hit %…and better (lower) than team average K%. Finally gets a hit on a relatively soft ground ball. Baseball.
  21. Are we prop wagering? I like Julien for the called strike three. But I like Gasper for the swinging strike three. And I like them equally for taking ball four. I like Julien for the throwing error. But I like Gasper for the fielding error.
  22. 1 1/2 games out with the first place guardians trailing on the road against a good team. The race is heating up!!
  23. Twins exit velocities in top of 2nd…. Unregistered (too soft to register) 60 mph 53 mph
