  1. The wind has died down quite a bit…and the humidity should help keep the ball in the park…but it’s no match for this pitching.
  2. Might think about stringing a net around the outfield before someone in the bleachers gets seriously hurt.
  3. With the new rules…a catcher is never going out unless told to do so by the bench.
  4. I hope the complimentary piece on TD doesn’t doom SWR tonight. They usually do. The good news is that it seems to work the other way as well…for instance, discussing the ‘overratedness’ of Correa on the day he begins an 8-10 streak. In the interests of everyone concerned, I’d like to see way more articles ripping players and management here.
  5. It’s never going to happen…but if it were left to purely baseball considerations, I’d move the complex to Arizona in a heartbeat. The schedules are ridiculous in Florida. This year is worse than normal…but not that much worse. Always an issue. Also…what’s the explanation for some complex teams playing 9-inning games and some only 7-inning games (talking about 7-inning games that are NOT make-up games)??
  6. I would fine my pitcher for throwing anything in the K zone to Buxton with less than ball 3. But….yes!!
  7. It was Joaquin Andujar that hurt.
  8. Clobberization = Exit Velocity x Launch Angle I had to look it up.
  9. My favorite (not) feature of the patented Rocco batting order is his insistence on alternating righties and lefties….only to replace the the lefties as soon as a left-handed pitcher enters. What’s the point when you know you’re just going to yank the left-handed hitter anyway? How about just optimizing the order for the starter??
  10. He’d be a good fit if you could get him at a reasonable cost. But you won’t be able to get him at a reasonable cost. A lot of his numbers suggest he’s an ‘old’ 30…still, somebody’s going to give him more…probably significantly more…than 3 years. Much more likely that they hand the primary 1B role to Miranda, Julien, or Kirilloff…depending on who makes the stronger case between now and then.
  11. I can see him being considered overrated given all the attention and accolades surrounding his and the Astros accomplishments…and the subsequent controversy. Also, the Astros success without him…and probably a smidgin of contract envy from some mixed in there. But it’s not because he isn’t objectively very good. Because he is.
  12. What was the Twins record vs the Yankees in 2023 when the Yankees were not great…and the Twins were a little better than they have been in 2024? 4-3 Twins. This year, the Yankees are a completely different team…demolishing pretty much everybody…and the Twins are moderately worse than last year. Result: 0-6. Would it really matter to people if it was 1-5 instead? Why? What have the Twins done this year against Baltimore and Cleveland…the two next-best teams (record-wise) they’ve played this year? 0-8. It’s not a jinx…it’s not “choking”. It’s nothing more than the Yankees being WAY WAY better than the Twins. Once again. No wishing, hoping, knashing of teeth, rearranging of deck chairs, or voodoo, stands a chance in the face of this indisputable, harsh reality.
  13. Rocco doing what he can to set up the save situation for Duran.
  14. On the topic of rain… Wouldn’t it make sense for the teams based in Florida to pool capital to build 2 or 3 cheap, bare-bones indoor game facilities? With all the summer rain in Florida, the complex league schedules…compressed as they are, are really challenged. It just seems like an unnecessary challenge and disadvantage relative to the Arizona league.
  15. Well…the Rockies give up an average of 5.62 runs a game, so…if we had just been average offensively, we would have… been the first team ever to win a game by .62 runs. Sadly, we won’t get to see that.
  16. Varland and Buxton were my picks to click. Server must have been down earlier when I posted..
  17. I agree. Being caught in this never-ending cycle of “anything can happen” mediocrity is brutal…it simply postpones the process of building something truly good.
  18. In an unlikely fashion, our two plucky Minnesotan pitchers just had their ERA’s merge before our very eyes…at 7 and change.
  19. 7 hits, 4 walks, a HR, and 6 runs, in 3 innings in his last start for the Saints. How can you NOT give the spot start to Louie?? I realize the pick’ins are slim over in St Paul, but at least Boushley has kinda earned the chance…his AAA results have been light years better than Varlands. What do we expect of Louie? Will be go with the approach that didn’t work at AAA…or the approach that didn’t work with the Twins?
  20. In his defense, he’s taken only right turns at first base for about 3 weeks straight. The left caught him completely by surprise.
