  1. Twins hitters need to be more aggressive at the plate. They've watched too many good first pitch strikes and then get burned trying to take pitches slightly off the plate.
  2. When the Twins signed him I thought Gonzalez was supposed to be a decent hitter, but he's be truly awful so far this season. At this point I think the Twins almost have to give Astudillo a lot of the starts at third until Sano is back. Also, I'd agree the ball and strike calls are terrible. It seems like every call on the edge (or 6 inches off the edge) is completely random.
  3. I thought leaving Burdi unprotected in the rule 5 draft was a mistake and this season he was really making me wish we had him in our bullpen. Another major injury would be unfortunate and would basically mean he would have only been able to pitch around 40 total innings in the 2016-19 seasons (4 years). I was a firm believer this was going to be the year he had a breakout season and hope he can get his career on track after all the misfortune.
  4. Mejia has the stuff to be pretty good, he just has do a better job of throwing strikes.
  5. It's sad that a 4 run lead doesn't feel safe in the 8th inning.
  6. The Twins are going to have to do something to upgrade the bullpen. The team just can't survive with only 3 guys that have earned any degree of trust (Rogers, Hildenberger, and Parker).
  7. Adding even one solid 9th inning arm to the bullpen (Kimbrel maybe?) would have a huge impact. As you said, the improvement would have a cascade effect in that everyone currently in the bullpen could move to a slightly lower leverage role. One addition could basically make everyone a bit more effective.
  8. Cron's provided better defense than I expected along with worse hitting than I hoped for. The same could be said for Schoop.
  9. Am I missing something about Celestino? He was the #11 international prospect in the 2015 class and is now a 20 year old in Cedar Rapids. MLB rates him as having above average hit, run, and arm tools along with a plus fielding tool. He's currently ranked the Twins 15th best prospect (in a fairly strong farm system). From what little I've read, it sounds like he's likely to be a plus defender in CF, and if his bat develops a bit he could be a regular in the majors.
  10. It would seem likely that Adriana's days on the roster are numbered. When Sano gets back I'm guessing he gets DFAd.
  11. What happened to Gibson's slider? Last season it was his best pitch, but I don't remember him throwing it at all tonight.
  12. I'm an advocate of automating the strike zone. I really like the idea of balls and strikes being called consistently every game. I would also like to see catcher pitch framing become nothing more than a historical oddity.
  13. The problem with the Twins bullpen is that too many guys are being asked to fill a role that is probably a step higher than they are capable of at this point. Parker would be fine as a 7th or 8th inning guy, but there is no way he should be pitching the 9th of close games. Mejia and Harper should be pitching in the 5th or 6th inning when the starter gets knocked out early, not the 7th or 8th of a close game. Adding a capable 9th inning guy would help to shift guys to roles where they would be better suited.
  14. Hildenberger with a huge bail out after Parker implodes. The Twins bullpen is going to need some additional late inning help, I just don't think the team has enough bullets to survive now that the team is playing most every day.
  15. The Twins need to find a better option than Parker to pitch the 9th inning.
  16. I'd be ecstatic if the Twins could get Kimbrel for 3 years/$45M-$50M. Adding Kimbrel to Rogers, Parker, May, and Hildenberger would take a roughly average bullpen and turn it into a strength.
  17. Tonight is the clearest example I can remember of a team completely giving the game away. The Mets hitters did little to win other than stand still in the batter's box.
  18. Twins have had some brutal innings this road trip. Odorizzi's failed start in Philly, De Jong's 9th last night, and tonight's Odorizzi/Vasquez/Hildenberg implosion.
  19. Five walks and hit batter in six consecutive plate appearances. I really don't understand the decision making process tonight.
  20. Some extremely bad managing this inning. Baldelli let Odorizzi stay in way too long when it was clear he'd lost it and then throwing Vasquez out there was a very bad decision.
  21. This was not an ideal time for Vasquez to make his first appearance of the year.
  22. Odorizzi with a total melt down. That's the second time this season he's completely lost the strike zone.
  23. Romero's thrown 5 shutout innings out of the pen. I doubt he gets called up to replace De Jong since he went 3.1 innings today.
  24. My guess is De Jong gets sent down tomorrow with Duffey or Vasquez coming up. I'm also guessing De Jong is at the front of the line to get dropped if the Twins need to make a 40 man roster move.
  25. My guess is the Twins trade Austin, but only get back a lottery ticket type of prospect in the low minors.
