  1. I'm starting to wonder if Perez should move to the bullpen when Pineda comes off the IL. Smeltzer has out pitched him by a pretty wide margin over the last couple of months.
  2. Twins get a win with their 5th starter on the mound and Rogers unavailable. It wasn't pretty, but I'll take it.
  3. The thing that scares me a bit with Dyson is that he completely imploded in 2017, so there's a precedent for him losing the ability to get people out.
  4. It's actually 3 earned runs per appearance, he's only completed 0.2 innings.
  5. In 49 appearances in SF Dyson compiled an impressive 2.43 ERA. After two appearances in MIN, that impressive ERA has jumped up by over a run and is not looking nearly as good anymore.
  6. Wow, Dyson's first two appearances have been a complete disaster: 0.2 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 6 runs (or more).
  7. Are we sure this is the same Sam Dyson that pitched for the Giants? Maybe they just stuck a beard on some minor league guy and sent him to Minnesota.
  8. Dyson's now faced 5 guys and still hasn't gotten an out as a Twin.
  9. Going into the trade deadline there was a hope that the team would make a move that would have a major impact, instead the Twins front office did the absolute minimum to avoid being labeled as a failure. The team got better, but by no means did they separate themselves from Cleveland or the rest of the AL playoff contenders.
  10. Looks like the Astros got some separation from the rest of the AL. They got a lot better while the rest of the potential playoff teams did little to improve.
  11. The Twins front office has done a great job of building the everyday lineup and an OK job with the rotation. Their approach to the bullpen, however, baffles me. They have been completely unwilling to spend even modest money on free agent relievers and now appear unwilling to expend any prospect capital to acquire bullpen help in trade. To summarize the Twins approach: - refuse to sign even moderately priced free agent relievers - sign Parker out of the bargain bin in free agency (since DFAd) - take a good look at the scrap heap and end up with one low leverage reliever in Harper (MaGill, Morin, Adams DFAd) - assume internal options will be better than they actually are ending up with a couple low to mid leverage guys in Duffey and May (Mejia, Vasques, Moya DFAd with Romero and Hildenberger relegated to AAA) - give all the AAA starters a shot in the bullpen and pray (Stewart, Littell, Thorpe, Smeltzer, and Poppen currently get try outs) - trade for Romo and decide that Rogers/Romo is enough to carry the bullpen into the playoffs
  12. Holland had already been DFAd by the Giants, so trading him means nothing in terms of SF dealing other pieces.
  13. In Spring training the primary bullpen options were Rogers, May, Parker, A. Reed, May, Romero, Magill, Hildenberger, Harper, and Mejia. Out of that group 4 have been DFAd (Parker, A. Reed, Magill, and Mejia) and 2 more are in AAA (Romero and Hildenberger). Of the remaining guys May and Harper have been OK, but they definitely don't inspire confidence when they take the mound in the late innings of close games. Basically the Twins have one pitcher from their initial bullpen that should be pitching in high leverage situations. Looking back I think it's fair to say the front office made a massive mistake when they failed to add any competent relievers in the off-season.
  14. Rooker has been on fire at Rochester, I'm wondering if he gets called up.
  15. I definitely wouldn't give up any of our top 10 prospects for Bumgarner (other than Thorpe). He's a mid rotation starter who would be a rental. Take away the name recognition and his value is not particularly high.
  16. Unless the Twins acquire a clear upgrade to their rotation I don't see any chance of them trading pitching. I could, however, see Schoop getting moved for the right price. He's got some value, is only signed through this season, and there are replacements (Arraez or Gordon) ready.
  17. Parker is doing his best to emulate the Fernando Rodney experience. He seems unable to have clean and worry free innings in close games.
  18. Thank you Eddie, I really wasn't confident the bullpen could hold a 1 run lead.
  19. There's a reason you rarely see a reliever pitch in a day game after pitching 2 innings the night before.
  20. So the plan is to pitch Rogers in every close game until he implodes from overwork?
  21. Since the start of 2017, Bumgarner has basically been a 3rd or 4th starter who has missed a number of games due to injuries. Factor in he's a rental and there is no way I'd pay a significant price to acquire him. If the Twins can get him with a package of mid range prospects they should go for it. If it costs a top prospect they should pass.
  22. It would be really nice to see Eades succeed, the Twins haven't had much luck with prospect type relievers this year (Vasquez, De Jong, Littell, and Romero have all failed so far).
  23. Not a surprise that Astudillo go sent down, he's had a sub .500 OPS since he came off the IL and hasn't been making hard contact. My guess on who gets called up is Alcala (with Torreyes waived).
  24. I'm wondering if he's overthinking it. He sees the pitch coming right down the middle and thinks the pitcher would never throw a 2 strike fastball there so it must be a breaking ball.
