  1. I hope this means May is back in the rotation when he comes off the DL. I'd really like to see him get a few starts to end the year to make it clear he's a starter going into training camp.
  2. I think it's a good idea to see what Duffey looks like in the bullpen. Going into next season it would be nice to know if he can succeed in a relief role. The other move that needs to happen is to put May back into the rotation.
  3. A borderline top 100 prospect (#91 in BA mid-season rankings) was towards the high end of what I thought the Twins could get for Nunez. Now I'm optimistic that Abad and Suzuki might bring back decent returns as well.
  4. I'd like to see Duffey and May swap roles for the rest of the year. That way the team could evaluate each in a role where they might be best suited to succeed.
  5. Looking at the starting pitching options for the rest of this year and the beginning of next year I'm not seeing 5 guys I'd rather have in the rotation over May. Gibson seems like about the only relatively safe bet to be in the rotation to start next year. Hopefully none of the Nolasco/Milone/Dean group we've seen this year will be in the rotation. Santana might be traded and who knows when or if Hughes will be worth starting again. Duffey hasn't looked very good but is still worth a longer look. That leaves Berrios and May as legitimate options to fill out the rotation. I'd really like to see May get 10-12 starts this year so that the club can have a better idea if he is one of the teams 5 best options to start next year.
  6. It's pretty clear that Joe Mauer is now a .260-.270 hitting 1B/DH with a sub .740 OPS and that is what he will be going forward. The real question which hasn't yet become an issue is what happens if there are two other 1B/DH guys who are clearly hitting better? I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened yet. Sano's bat (3B/DH) needs to be in the lineup every day and Plouffe (3B) might return to his previous production and deserve to play as well. That would mean that if one out of Park/Vargas/Palka figures things out the Twins might have to make a hard decision on how much Mauer plays going forward.
  7. Terry Ryan is out to show that the Sporting News article was too generous. The Twins front office is trying to get down to the 30th spot in the rankings.
  8. It's time for the Twins to move on from Terry Ryan. In the years he's been general manager (I think it's been 18 years in his two stints) the team has won a total of 6 playoff games and 1 playoff series. His conservative approach just doesn't result in teams that are competitive in the post season (which the Twins have only reached 4 times in Ryan's tenure). I'd really like to see an overhaul of the front office to bring in someone from outside the organization who is willing to at least occasionally be aggressive with spending and uses a more modern approach that is not a decade behind on analytics.
