  1. Twins need another lefty out of the bullpen. It would be really nice to have an option besides Rogers to match-up against left handed hitters in games like tonight.
  2. Arraez making it really hard to send him back to AAA.
  3. Coming into the season I felt like our starting pitching depth was ok. Unfortunately, Mejia is on the IL, Gonsalves is just off the IL, and the rest of the AAA guys haven't been great (Thorpe, Littell, and Stewart). I'd say Pineda is inching closer to pitching himself out of the rotation, I'm just not sure who is next in line.
  4. Pineda now tied for the league lead in HRs given up. He also leads qualified starters in HR/9 by a significant margin. Pineda's lucky there are no starters in the high minors who are pushing for a promotion to the majors.
  5. Here's an interesting article on Pineda. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/its-time-for-michael-pineda-to-change-his-approach/ My basic take-away was that Pineda's struggles are likely to continue if he keeps the same approach he has used so far this season. His fastball velocity is down and since he throws it with little spin he is likely to get hit hard if he continues to throw it up in the strike zone. His slider has been getting crushed when he throws it over the plate, so the article suggests he needs to start throwing it so it breaks out of the strike zone.
  6. Harper has earned a bump up from low to medium leverage situations.
  7. I'm surprised Odorizzi didn't go back out for the 6th. His pitch count was only at 90..
  8. It seems like the pitchers in a lot of recent games have done really well only to struggle getting the last out in the 5th inning.
  9. With as much trouble as Sano has had with breaking balls, I doubt he is going to see a fastball in the strike zone anytime soon.
  10. At least our good bullpen arms are all well rested. May, Rogers, and Parker could all pitch today if the game stays close.
  11. Gibson with a couple of fastballs right down the middle.
  12. How is Arraez not a higher rated prospect? He's hit for a high average at every level and walks as much as he strikes out. He also seems at least decent in the field and can play 2B, 3B, and in an emergency SS.
  13. I'd be more comfortable if his misses were closer to the strike zone. There have been way too many at bats where he was ahead 1-2 and then wasted a couple of pitches that were not close enough to get the hitter to swing.
  14. Sano's pitch recognition seems ok, he just has really struggled to make contact on off-speed pitches in the strike zone.
  15. I was looking at Arraez's stats and realized he's only 22, that's 2-3 years younger than Rooker, Raley, and Wade. He also missed pretty much the full year in 2017, so making it to the majors this fast is a significant achievement.
  16. With Nick Gordon on the IL, Torreyes innactive, and Cave just being optioned I guess the choice for a position player to call up came down to Arraez or Wade. Since the Twins will be seeing three lefty starters in row I'm doubting Arraez gets much playing time this series.
  17. One benefit of tonight's game is the Mariner's had to make extensive use of their bullpen. I'm hoping the Twins can capitalize on a worn out Mariner's relief core over the next games.
  18. I think Pineda misheard, seems like the message he got was to let the Mariners go deep.
  19. The Twins off-season reliever plan is rapidly falling apart. Reed and De Jong have pitched themselves off the 40 man roster. Romero, Vasquez, Hildenberger, and Mejia are deservedly off the 25 man roster. I doubt anyone has much faith in Harper, Morin, Magill, Duffey, or Adams in high leverage situations. That leaves Rogers, Parker, and May to carry the load in close games. Overall, the bullpen has been OK so far this season, but it's highly questionable that the group can maintain an acceptable degree of success going forward.
  20. Magill, Harper, Morin, and Adams are pitchers that would be fine as the 7th or 8th guys in the bullpen. Having 4 of that type of reliever on the 25 man roster is asking for trouble.
  21. To open up a 40 man roster spot I'm guessing Reed (waive or 60 day IL) or Torreyes are removed.
  22. I'm curious who gets bumped from the 40 man roster. My guess would be Addison Reed (either waived or 60 day IL). Other possible options seem like Torreyes, Duffey, or Moya.
  23. Littell threw 97 pitches yesterday, so I doubt he gets the call.
  24. Addison Reed pitching again tonight. He went into the game with a 13.50 ERA and 3 HR (in 4 IN). Both of those numbers went up.
  25. I truly have no idea who the Twins are going to call up to replace Hildenberger. There aren't many options out of the guys on the 40 man roster. Gonsalves, Mejia, and Vasquez are on the IL. Stewart, Thorpe, and Littell have been starting (and haven't been all that great). Addison Reed is on a rehab assignment, but has been extremely bad at AAA. Romero was just demoted, so I believe they have to wait to call him up again. That leaves Moya and his 9.53 ERA at AAA. I guess there are a few guys at AA that could make the jump in Stashak, Bray, or Mason. Maybe they give Tyler Jay a shot even though he hasn't really earned it.
