  1. Since Berrios, Buxton, Rogers, and Duffey all still have a year of team control I'd guess the Twins will take their time making any decisions on moving them. It will be interesting to see if the Twins do a small sell-off of expiring contract guys or if they do a major makeover of the roster.
  2. Counting tonight, the Twins will have gone 2-6 against the Orioles and Royals over the last stretch. I'll be curious to see if this prompts the Organization to open up the bidding for Cruz, Simmons, Pineda, and Robles. Selling this early in the year could potentially improve the returns.
  3. Wow, this might be the worst start for a pitcher that I've seen in a long time. That's partly due to the fact that the Twins left Shoemaker in the game so long, most guys would have been pulled much sooner.
  4. This has to be Shoemaker's last start for the Twins?
  5. In the short term probably Ober, Jax, or Barnes. Sometime in the next month I'm hopeful that Duran will get a chance. A couple of months down the road and guys like Balazovic, Winder, and Sands could also be options.
  6. I really don't understand why Shoemaker is still on the team. If the Twins are going to waste starts, I'd rather see them going to young guys. The prospects aren't likely to be significantly worse and the organization can start to see which young starters might be able to contribute next season.
  7. Dobnak needs be sent down tomorrow. In 4 appearances he has 3 losses and an 11.88 ERA, something clearly isn't working.
  8. The fact that the Twins don't feel the need to go after a better starter than Shoemaker gives me hope that some of the Duran, Balazovic, Canterino, Sands, and Winder group are expected to be ready for the majors this season. If the team didn't have confidence in the major league ready starter depth, they hopefully would have gone after a much better pitcher like Walker or Odorizzi.
  9. It never made sense to have two left handed hitting fourth outfielders in Wade and Cave, so getting a guy who might be useful is likely a worthwhile move.
  10. I'd be surprised if any additional spending by the Twins didn't go towards pitching. Between Cave, Rooker, Larnach, and Wade the outfield depth is pretty solid. I'd even guess that Celestino isn't that far away. If there had been minor league ball he likely would have spent part of last season at AA.
  11. I'd prefer to see Dobnak and Smeltzer replaced by free agent signings. One of Odorizzi, Paxton, or Walker would be a great addition to the starting rotation and it would be good to re-sign Clippard.
  12. I would definitely give Blankenhorn/Gordon the first shot at the second utility player. Even if they don't work out, it is fairly easy to find guys who can fill the role on the waiver wire. Even if Gonzalez only costs $1-2M that is still money that could be better spent elsewhere.
  13. I can see a 1-year deal being a good thing. Simmons age and health would make him a bit risky on a multi-year deal, plus Royce Lewis is likely going to be ready at some point this season.
  14. After his awful second half of last season I'll be happy if Dobnak can settle in as a competent 5th starter. At this point I am somewhat worried that the league figured out his unusual pitching profile.
  15. Coming into the off-season Simmons was about the only realistic position player upgrade I thought would be worthwhile, so I am extremely happy with the signing (this is infinitely better than bringing back Marwin). Now if the Twins can just add one good playoff caliber starting pitcher, the off-season will be a big success. I'm also hopeful that this is finally the year where the front offices supposed skill at drafting and developing starting pitchers results in at least one rookie starter forcing their way into the rotation.
  16. Hopefully this is just a depth signing and there is a follow-up move that actually improves the rotation.
  17. I find it extremely hard to believe that the Twins can't find an upgrade to Marwin. My guess is there are at least half a dozen players who could fill the same role with significantly better production while not costing all that much.
  18. At the time I thought the Santana deal was ridiculously bad for the Twins and time has proven that to be true. Bill Smith just wasn't up to the task and was taken advantage of by the Mets. If he had a bit more backbone he would have just kept Santana and gone all in for a playoff run. Getting 200 innings from Santana plus at least a couple playoff starts would have been significantly more valuable than the crap package they got back.
  19. The biggest impact move the Twins could make for the every day lineup would be finding a better hitting coach. Just getting Garver, Polanco, Sano, Kepler, and Arraez closer to their 2019 performances would be a huge improvement.
  20. I truly think the Twins need to find a new hitting coach for next season.
  21. The only positives in this series have been the starting pitching and Kirilloff's debut. Eddie Rosario likely ends his Twins career with an 0-7 playoff series cut short by getting ejected.
  22. I hope the Twins finally figure out that pitching Rogers on back-to-back days is a really bad idea.
  23. I guess the Twins want to make sure their record playoff losing streak can never be challenged.
  24. The Twins performance this series is just plain depressing.
  25. Twins are completely out of sync. I can't remember them missing so many fastballs over the heart of the plate.
