  1. Correa is a platinum glove shortstop who derives massive value from his glove. He's a good, not great, hitter. I cannot see him moving off shortstop for at least several years. The Story thing was a little surprising but with Bogaerts opting out, I suspect he knew he'd play only one year at second base.
  2. And that's very possible, though I think the Dodgers prioritize winning above all else and Correa is likely to be the better investment IMO.
  3. Remember just a year ago they had Corey Seager and appeared to make little to no effort to retain him, if I'm recalling correctly.
  4. I did not live in Minnesota when Wellstone died but so many around me continue to mourn his loss to this day. I do not understand that sentiment, as I've never been near any politician that evoked true positive emotion from me, but my wife literally has a Wellstone sign to this day so he obviously had a true lasting impact on the state and it saddens me ex post facto that I wasn't able to witness his influence myself.
  5. How I wish MLB had better revenue sharing...
  6. I completely agree but if the teams bidding include the Dodgers and/or Yankees, I think the Twins chances drop from “low” to “zero”. The Dodgers in particular can add $20m to an eight year deal without blinking an eye and should the Twins go nuts and match it, the Dodgers could simply add another $20m and not even notice.
  7. Five words Twins fans did not want to hear to start this offseason. Jon Heyman has reported that while Trea Turner is obviously open to returning to the premiere Los Angeles team, the Dodgers themselves may be targeting Correa as their number one shortstop free agent. This is terrible news for the Twins, especially coupled with rumors that the Yankees may be sore after their ALCS loss and may also enter the fray for Correa. It's safe to say that if those teams are involved, the Twins' chance of retaining Correa approaches zero. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/10/dodgers-interested-in-carlos-correa.html View full rumor

The Twins Daily 2023 Offseason Handbook is available free of charge to all Twins Daily Caretakers. If you are not currently a Caretaker, you can subscribe at any time. The 2023 Offseason Handbook is a comprehensive look at the Minnesota Twins' offseason with in-depth analysis of the roster, payroll, arbitration decisions, and available free agents. This year, the handbook will be released in smaller pieces as opposed to one large booklet. This allows us to keep information timely and up-to-date. This section of the handbook features a "choose your own adventure" from Nick Nelson examining different routes the Twins may take this offseason: using Ryan Jeffers as the primary backstop with a backup addition, signing a potent free agent, or trading for a young catcher.

  10. Rodon also terrifies me but, as I said, I think he's the most gettable name that is actually really good.
  11. Upside with risk. I don't do a lot but what I do costs a bunch of money. I retain Correa with a front-loaded contract, starting him at $40m over the next few years. I sign Rodon. I don't love Rodon but I think he's a gettable name that's better than almost all of the Twins internal options. I trade Kepler. I know the minimization of the shift might help him in 2023 but I'm done with Max and can no longer expect him to make the necessary changes to improve upon his half-a-dimension approach at the plate and dishing him to another team allows me to keep the payroll in check. And then I run out a bunch of guys who could tank the season, particularly in the bullpen. But I think the Twins have enough arms to keep the pen afloat until some names emerge as true bullpen candidates. It's a risk but it's the kind of risk I'm willing to take to drastically improve at two key positions. No more patchwork rosters. Go big, even if it leaves you vulnerable at other positions. C: Ryan Jeffers ($0.70M) 1B: Luis Arraez ($4.50M) 2B: Jorge Polanco ($7.50M) 3B: Gio Urshela ($9.00M) SS: Carlos Correa ($40.00M) LF: Alex Kirilloff ($0.70M) CF: Byron Buxton ($15.00M) RF: Matt Wallner/Trevor Larnach ($0.70M) DH: Jose Miranda ($0.70M) 4th OF: Kyle Garlick ($0.70M) Utility: Nick Gordon ($0.70M) Utility: Gilberto Celestino ($0.70M) Backup C: Sandy Leon ($1.00M) SP1: Carlos Rodon ($25.00M) SP2: Sonny Gray ($9.00M) SP3: Tyler Mahle ($8.00M) SP4: Joe Ryan ($0.70M) SP5: Bailey Ober ($0.70M) RP: Jhoan Duran ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Lopez ($3.00M) RP: Griffin Jax ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Alcala ($1.00M) RP: Caleb Thielbar ($2.00M) RP: Kenta Maeda ($5.00M) RP: Josh Winder ($0.70M) RP: Ronnie Henriquez ($0.70M) Payroll is 0.64% under budget

  14. This was kind of a last minute tool. I hope to create some sort of save and revision feature next off-season. But considering that it was assembled in about ten days, shut your mouth about its lack of options.

  16. Watching Dahmer-Monster on Netflix. It’s a hard watch. Slow with no easy answers to why he was an absolute monster. It throws a lot at the viewer but I think it works overall, as nice and tidy answers don’t jibe with how someone like him exists in the world. And holy **** is Evan Peters disturbing as Dahmer.
  17. I finally watched Moon Knight. It might be my favorite Marvel show thus far. WandaVision and Falcon & Winter Soldier might be better but Moon Knight was exactly what I wanted from the adaptation. Complete and utter lunacy throughout with a very superhero feel to it.
  18. Super cool that so many are HAPPY to deprive this site and its creators of their sole revenue source. Anybody who brings up specifics about ad blockers is getting warning points. Using a tech workaround to take away 100% of the revenue that literally dozens of people use to keep this site operational is ******, especially because WE OFFER AN AD-FREE VERSION. I'm so ****ing sick of freeloaders, especially ones who boast about how awesome they are for doing it.
  19. First, Johan Santana's career basically ended after he threw 130 pitches in a no-hitter. I chalk that up to a bad coincidence but it has happened before. Second, Joe Ryan has averaged over five innings a start. I'm not sure where you're getting "hardly pitched more than 4.2".
  20. Holiday weekend. I have no idea what day it is anymore.
  21. I don't fault the Twins for being forced to start Varland here in the sense that they've suffered an enormous number of injuries but I'm starting to really question their medical team. Year in and year out, the Twins have gone into September looking like a shell of their April selves. Yes, injuries are way up in baseball but why do the Twins always seem to face other teams still rostering most of their original squad in September and October while the Twins look like the third act of a zombie movie?
  22. Making his MLB debut in Yankee Stadium during a September run for the playoffs. I'm going to avoid the heartbreak and skip the game tonight. Godspeed, Mr Varland.
  23. It never fails. There’s always one descriptor in a Stu article that kills me with its perfection.
  24. I’ll gladly pay if the Twins are involved. Better than DTV’s awful $90 sub I currently use to ONLY watch BSN.
