I do wonder what would have happened if Colabello didn't have the major slump in May/June 2014.

But I'm glad to see him excelling in Toronto. Go Blue Jays!

If I remember correctly he actually hurt his right thumb in late April. Up to that point he was a hitting machine and it all went down after that. Although he slumped I think that it now seems that it was most likely due to the injury. Love the guy and hope he continues to deliver for Toronto.

Hopefully someone gives him a 2-3 year contract after this year and he gets some well earned money/security moving forward.

Unfortunately he still isn't arbitration eligible this winter, by my count about 55 days short.  Hopefully the Jays give him a bit of a raise regardless, but I don't see him getting a multi-year deal.

His April 2014 performance is surprisingly similar to his 2015 Toronto performance, in K%, BB%, ISO, and BABIP.  However, I do recall he wasn't pulling the ball with much authority in April 2014.  This year, pulled balls in play has been his best split for the Jays (6 HR, 1.000 SLG in 42 AB).  Healthy, I think he probably would have settled in around a league-average bat for us.

There's a lot of Blue Jays magic at play here, they really seem to get the best out of sluggers.  I wonder what they could do with a healthy Arcia?

I was wondering the exact same myself.  In the Hicks thread, Nick speculated on platooning Arcia with Hicks out of of ST next year. Given the Blue Jays SOP, I'm thinking it's going to happen just about this way:

I'm sure the Blue Jays would vote for this option.  That way, Arcia can showcase his talents for his future spot in Toronto, after the Twins waive him, and he then becomes Chris Colabello's platoon partner.

Do the Blue Jays have a catching prospect? Maybe the Twins should look to trade Arcia this winter, for the same reason I wanted them to shop Pinto last winter. If the Twins aren't going to give the guy MLB at bats, trade him for someone they will use.

I'm happy for Chris Colabello and all of the other former Twins that are on the Blue Jays this year (including Danny Valencia who was having a career year when Toronto dumped him). I hope the Blue Jays win the World Series. If not them, then the Royals or Cubs.

I also agree with the sentiment that Colabello deserves (has earned) a raise and a multi-year deal.

Wow.  I knew Valencia had turned into a useful low-walk platoon role player the past few years, but he was the starting 3B for Oakland down the stretch and hit great for them.  .284/.356/.530 with 11 HR over 2 months, for a 140 OPS+.  Plus his time in Toronto, he had a 134 OPS+ in 378 PA this year, easily besting even his Twins rookie year for offensive performance.

I'd love to see Colabello get paid, but that would be a terrible business decision for Toronto.  You don't give a guaranteed multi-year deal to a guy with a .411 BABIP who is still a year away from arbitration (not to mention, a 32 year old 1B/DH too).

Hopefully the Jays renew his deal above the minimum, maybe $600k or $700k, but any more than that doesn't make sense financially under the current MLB system.  (It is a shame that Colabello is stuck under that system after his long and unusual path to the bigs, though.)

Never mind that he is one of the worst defenders in baseball according to advanced metrics.

365 innings in the OF with a -14 DRS.

Ouch.

Yeah, I left "OF" off of his positional description for a reason!  I think he's actually an acceptable 1B.
