Rajai Davis in the mix?

Just saw that the Twins were supposedly offering Rajai Davis a multi year deal.

Not really sure how this will affect the 2014 outfield if he signs.

So would that make an outfield of Davis, Willingham, and Arcia. With Presley being the 4th outfielder with Hicks starting 2104 in Rochester. Or who knows if there is a Willingham trade in the upcoming days.

Mastro would probably be DFA'ed. Davis would be a 4th outfielder or a starting CF option depending upon how others do. Might also show the Parmelle is not in the Twins plans.

...and the cycle of mediocrity continues.

One rumor by an unreliableish source and a bash...can we bring back the dislike button?

Would be an upgrade in center...which is saying nothing but could hold center for next season and a half.

Yeah, I wouldn't be against Davis. Worst case, he's a really good fourth OF who can pinch run and steal a ton of bases. I would obviously prefer a 1 year deal, but I don't see this as bad. Not exciting, but not all moves can be.

No there is no reason for this unless Willingham is gone and the Twins plan on dumping Mastro. Multiple years? What the hell?

This would look to be a straight up replacement for Mastro, given the steals that Davis (the only thing he is good at) can bring. If kept at that, it's fine. But I only like it if Willingham is seriously being shopped.

I like the move. He's a SB threat. Will hit better than anyone but Arcia in the OF. I can't see it being for a huge amount of $. Willingham...lets just make sure he's healthy and able to hit over .220 before we betroth him an OF spot...or even DH for that matter.

My 'hope'...is if Willingham hits at all. He's gone at the All-Star break and maybe Buxton would be ready come Aug 1.

Apparently the Twins are willing to give a multi year deal to Raja via Wolfson. Not a fan but especially not a fan on a multi year deal.

I am only writing what I heard.

9:46pm: Minnesota is in the mix for Davis, reports Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities. According to Wolfson, the Twins are willing to commit multiple years to Davis, which should make the team a strong suitor for his services.

Why not sign a decent 4th OF and pinch runner? He's not overly far above replacement level, but then, neither is Presley. Any deal with him would be too small to prevent the Twins from doing anything else they might otherwise be inclined to.

He's a pretty close to league average player when you take into account his speed. I like it, if anything this forces Doumit into more of a reserve role. Or off the roster altogether. In either case I endorse that.

We really need some depth in the outfield, especially center field. I hope Presley and Hicks show some improvement over last year, but if not Rajai Davis is a nice insurance policy. A veteran that has been around a while. If everyone plays well and Davis is the odd man out, he could still fill the role of pinch runner, late inning defensive specialist. Also, Davis seems like the perfect platoon outfielder. Seems to hit lefties well and could spell Arcia, Parmelee or Presley whenever we face a southpaw.

Ok, that is a pretty legitimate defense of the possible acquisition.

If it wasn't a given before I think this means Hicks starts in Rochester no matter how well he hits in spring training.

The one thing I don't like is Davis doesn't fill the lead-off void or a good second place hitter if they decide to hit Dozier lead-off.

What is this "platoon" concept you speak of?

Guys like Rajai Davis shouldn't sign multi-year contracts. that's like giving Nick Punto a multi-year contract. Luckily Davis signed in Detroit so we avoid this but if you read between the lines it looks like the Twins want a temporary CF starter.

I am glad the Twins didn't pay Davis that much money. I could have seen a 2yr deal for $6M. not the $9-10M Detroit payed. The Twins would never have used him properly anyways. Every time they have a player with good speed they never take advantage of it.
