When you factor in war, pestilence, famine...

In all seriousness, to the new posters, the moderators do a great job including the head moderator.

There are a lot of different opinions and personalities here and they are pretty adept at maintaining the balance of allowing debate and various opinions but preventing a thread from devolving into just a lot of negative comments and bickering.

Pfft. Sez you.

Hello all, Twins-fan from the old country(?), Norway, for the last 4-5 years. Got my first bobblehead this week off ebay, Corey Koskie. Never been to a real ballgame.  Maybe a chance to get to one closer to home in 2017. Reading between the lines here, quite clear that the Twins will come to London.

"We haven't really settled on teams, and I don't want to speculate about that," he said. "Obviously, we want to make as good a first impression in Europe as we possibly can."

Welcome from afar! We have a few posters here who are from all over, so you aren't alone. Hope you enjoy the articles and various forum discussions. Feel free to ask questions and enjoy! :)

I looked back and realized I never posted on this thread before. So hey. My name is Eric, but most people on here call me Vanimal, Van, Van Man, or the Whine Line Guy. I grew up in Mankato, MN and also spent a couple of years in the Twin Cities until the polar vortex winter of 2013 became the final straw for enduring freezing weather. Since then I've been living in Austin, TX and enjoying the warmer temps.

Heard about this site several times from John on KFAN, and I was finally drawn into creating an account when Chief started the Over/Under Wins Contest. I wasn't sure how long I'd last on here, because I was not, and still not really, a sabermetrics guy. But there's a lot of avenues and topics to get your feet wet in on this site. If sabermetrics is your thing, you'll find folks who enjoy talking about it. If scorching hot sports takes is your thing, there are threads for that too. And everything in between.

There's a lot that I've learned over the last year of posting on this site:
- With so many avenues and topics to chime in on, you get to know more about the people behind the screen name. There's a lot of characters on the site, most of them good :)
- It's not all serious and bickering here. The mods do a great job of trimming the bad that you see in other comment sections (Star Tribune I'm looking at you) and you can have fun talking about a range of things.
- Sometimes your ideas turn into something good! Minnesota Twins Whine Line thread would have crashed and burned without good contributors who want to poke fun at the team.

So jump on in, and enjoy the site. Because this site wouldn't be as fun if everyone were lurkers, and nobody contributed to the conversations.

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum. My name is Brad and I'm originally from Eden Prairie, MN. I currently live in Tallahassee, FL. My girlfriend and I are going to a Twins Spring Training game against the Cardinals and I'm absolutely jacked about it! It will be my first time going to a Spring Training game for the Twins and it looks like Hammond Park is a pretty awesome facility. So anyways, hope you guys are doing well and go Twins!

You will love it in Ft Myers. Wish I could be there. I always promise to buy people their first beer, when I'm not there. :)

I am going to choose to believe that this post is a lie, that your real name is Vance, that you grew up in CA, and you are scheduled to be the next celebrity host at Winter Meltdown 2017.

Next thing you will know someone will be saying Chief's real first (and last?) name is not Methuselah.

Can't wait to see what another year with Mollie at the helm will bring. Although we are limited by payroll, and have WAY too many holes to be a true contender (only one power hitter playing in a new position, a non-power 1st baseman who eats up a quarter of the payroll, no ace starter), it seems like we will be best served by bringing back the 'piranhas' of 2006. I guess I'm a true Minnesotan in that the best description is "cautiously optimistic".

That's a healthy attitude. And howdy.

Love the insight here, have lurked for years.. My only claim of credibility is the I attended child birthing classes with Claudia Cuddyer and Nikki Punto nearly 8 years ago. Ultimately, Casey Cuddyer any my daughter were born on the same day in Edina and we passed each other in the hospital halls several times. (That has to count for something is my theory)

My prediction this for this year....

The twins bullpen will be a tremendously positive asset. I am thinking that our stable of fireballing prospects will benefit from their collective relative anonymity and a few will have, at minimum, stretches where they surprise via a limited amount of scouting against them. A couple may stick...but the ability to keep rolling out hard throwers the league hasn't seen yet will elevate their overall performance. If/when the league catches up to each reliever...the Twins can move on to the next arm and repeat the cycle.

That's my hope and through that process we will all learn what we really have with our relief prospects.

Rezzy, as a sophomore on TD, I have one bit of advice to offer you: don't listen to ChiTown; by all means jump in, but leave your feet behind. I've discovered that the toes can be sensitive to the heated discussions that occasionally erupt in here, spewing hot lava and ash in all directions. :)

Wait....wut....Michael Cuddyer's wife and Nick Punto had a child?

You learn something new every day around here.

Welcome.

Welcome.

Wait a minute, that was way back when I was a little green tenderfoot and didn't realize the responsibilities that come hand in hand with being a moderator. I thought better of my rash actions several months ago ... will you never let me live it down?

Anyway, North is Canadian and therefore wears winter boots at all times (the average high during a Twins game in July in his area is in the twenties - even ask), so his feet are protected from the heat the rest of us invariably experience while sauntering about this active lava field known as Twins Daily.

I'm guilty of being a long-time lurker and will make an effort to post more often.

Things I'm looking forward to this year:

> Gibson taking another step forward to becoming a top of the rotation ace

> Debut of Max Kepler, sooner than later

> One of the young fireballers making their debut with the Twins this year, whether it's Burdi or Reed.  The pen could use the help

> What happens at the Catcher position.  Hoping JR Murphy makes an impact and takes over the position.

Many, many others but I tried to keep to the less-than-obvious ones (like the debut of Berrios!).

Overall, just plain looking forward to them building on what they did last year.

Go Twins!!

Welcome new members.

It's normal to feel shy at first.  Don't worry.  There are some sites where people might be disrespectful, especially towards newbies.  At TD, we don't allow that, and we are especially protective of new members.

Have fun here!

Interesting take from MLTR:

•The trade sending John Ryan Murphy to the Twins in exchange for outfielder Aaron Hicks was “the best pure baseball deal of the offseason,” in the opinion of one official who spoke with Cafardo. That official, Cafardo notes, was not involved in the swap in any way. Hicks, a defensive specialist, ended the 2015 campaign with a .256/.323/.398 batting line and swiped 13 bags on the year, making him a little more appealing. The Twins, meanwhile, got themselves an upgrade behind the plate in the wake of Kurt Suzuki’s struggles

Unless you're actually interested in talking about the game. That's the last thing Game Threads are for.

To be fair, I don't think good discussion about the game underway tends to get squelched. It's more like, long periods of silence develop, and someone tries to make conversation - 'what are you all having for dinner' - 'who's better, Ginger or Mary Ann?' - 'anyone have any thoughts on the job Terry Ryan is doing?'.

Next thing you know, it's the ninth inning and the only thing left to discuss is whether to let Nolasco have a crack at the Complete Game win.

I was being unfair? I didn't day squelched but just as good dinner conversation is very rarely about dinner, game threads aren't much about the game.

That's the charm and appeal I might add.

I guarantee if Nolasco is finishing up a complete game win, the conversation will be game related. Every time.
