glunn Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Cubs hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their 2012 record. / maybe virtue isn't quite the right word? So it looks like the Twins will get the #5 pick.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 and I am sure that your mom is proud of you. I hope so. I was banking on that to get me through the offseason.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Carnac: See you next season.Ed: OK, you too. Have fun.Carnac: No no no no no! That's the answer to the question in the envelope.Ed: THAT'S what we've been doing all this time?Carnac: May the fleas of a thousand waiver claims infest your 40-man roster.Ed: Hey-yo! So, now I understand why the cue card says, and the envelope please?Carnac: So, go ahead.Ed: And the envelope, please?Carnac: What will only the ushers and beer vendors say confidently to each other after this game?Ed: Good night, Gracie.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 So it looks like the Twins will get the #5 pick. Carnac: The #5 pick.Ed: Yadda yaddaCarnac: Yadda yaddaEd: And the contents of the hermetically sealed envelope?Carnac: What caused the benching of Christian Ponder in the third quarter?
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I hope so. I was banking on that to get me through the offseason. That, and maybe an apple crisp.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Look at the bright side, it could have been worse. Pythag liked the Twins for 99 losses with their second-worst run differential in baseball. But they're only going to lose 96, so that's... still depressing. Three errors to punctuate the stink of the season, too.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Three errors to punctuate the stink of the season, too. Left side of the infield not looking so good today (Diamond wears his glove there).
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Left side of the infield not looking so good today (Diamond wears his glove there).Fortunately I didn't watch the game, but they looked brutal in the box score. It looks like Diamond pitched better, at least.
GCTF Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Fire everyone. Purge that roster.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 A one-two-three ninth seems a fairly appropriate ending to this season. Better luck next year.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Another disappointing season, but at least we had fun on the game threads.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Against a team in need of a win to clinch a wildcard berth on the last day of the season, the Twins fielded a lineup with one guy who slugged over .400 this year (hat tip to Dozier) and started a pitcher with a 5.43 ERA. And yet it's hard to see what they could have done differently. Fitting end to the season that the Twins inadvertently help a division rival reach the postseason, while putting the kind of lineup and pitching out there that would normally cause the Rangers to be outraged and the league office to be dismayed...
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Another disappointing season, but at least we had fun on the game threads.Yup. I'm trying to think of what point I would have completely checked out on this season without the board in general and GT's in particular. Going to go with '10 minutes after nonwaiver trade deadline passed'. Anyway, thanks, g.t. regulars, for letting me tag along occasionally...

It looks like Diamond pitched better, at least. They were brutal - I was there and I felt physical pain after the second and third ones. And while Diamond was better, he did start off with three straight hits, including a 2-run homer. Didn't help himself today.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I missed the whole thing today -- a blessing I'm sure. Thanks again for the game threads. Since many of us are now rooting for Pittsburgh, is there any chance we could have a thread for the WC game?

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Hey game threaders. I want to thank you all for bringing some good times and a ton of laughs to the table. If I offended' date=' annoyed, or step out of bounds on anyone this season - you have my sincerest apologies. I am a work in progress. [i']"The coldest winter I ever spent was watching the Twins in the Summer of 2013"[/i](2013 is interchangeable with 2011 & 2012) Here's to wishing everyone a fantastic offseason!!! You were just fine, son.

I'll try to remember to do that but if anyone else wants to do so, it won't hurt my itty bitty feelings at all. Just thought it might be fun to chat about a (hopefully) good game after the last few weeks!
