Twins activate Connor Prielipp and Cole Sands

The Twins have activated LHP Connor Prielipp and reliever Cole Sands. Prielipp will start Sunday's finale versus the A's. 

Sands has been out since April 28 with a forearm strain so the Twins hope he will bolster a bullpen that has had its ups and downs throughout the year. 

To make room on the 26-man roster, Jack Anderson was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul and Mike Paredes was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain.

Dang that’s disappointing for Anderson.  He was given some opportunities and performed. The question is do they view him as a starter or reliever. If they want to lengthen him out it could be done at the AAA level. Cole Sands back up finally.

I will just say it here.  Our pen has been doing pretty good lately.  Adams has 8 scoreless innings in a row and counting getting his ERA down to 4.99.  Did he turn a corner?  What changed besides improved control?  

Morris and Gomez are probably the co-team MVP for coming out of nowhere to save the pen. 

Now we have Sands back.  This should help.

Raya, turned a corner in AAA and did well in his short stint before getting hurt. 

Anderson, pitched great before the demotion.  

Nance has given up to many base runners for the results he has but not too bad.  

Gallagher and Culpepper are the two remaining prospects who are ready in AAA.  

Even Rogers is on a run of 1 earned run in his last 6.67 innings.  

We probably still need a reliever at the deadline, but it's not as dire as it was a few weeks ago.

I'm actually a little bit high on the guy at the moment.  The Red Sox drafted him via Rule 5 so (scouting by proxy, LOL) he must have some potential.  The Sawx kept trying to make him be a starter at Worcester this year, and judging by a quick scan of his box scores it seems that his downfall would be in his third inning of work and forward.  Converting to bullpen isn't an instant project, so if the Twins view him as with potential in shorter, more frequent stints, I am on board with letting them try to complete the process at AAA, mixed with callups to the big club now and then since he's on the 40-man and is one of their arms to use.  The guy's on only his first minor-league option and still has rookie status, at age 26, so there's a chance that this will be an astute waiver wire pickup.  And the risk, if he fizzles, remains affordable.

Have to wonder if the Paredes injury has anything to do with how they stretched him out this week, throwing two different games with 3-4 innings with only 2 days rest?

The Paredes injury happened right before the game yesterday.

Another disappointing decision by the front office. Sands is just not that good. He had a decent season a couple years ago, but he hasn't been good at any other point. 

I'd much rather see what Anderson can do for us.

I think he was sent down due to the rules about who has more options left and who doesn't. Lawrence has the best earned run average on the team so the rules make him have to go to AAA. evidently the twins don't think anybody in the bullpen is not worth keeping by giving up on your best era reliever. I saw his last game and he was really great. another guy the the twins don't seem to like is Bowman. his last two games have been phenomenal. he has been on a streak of success so that's another guy that needs to be up there.
