Berardino: Upcoming Decisions Could Reshape Franchise

Solid piece from the always eloquent Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press, outlining the decisions that face Terry Ryan and the Twins in the coming weeks. Nothing groundbreaking here, but a good afternoon read nonetheless.

I had just copied and pasted that same quote before I noticed you had done the same thing.

 

It's kind of refreshing for a player not to take up every opportunity to get butthurt about how much a club values him.

I like the Perkins quote, too; and as much as he and his family are Minnesotans, there has to be some attraction for him in the possibility of going to a contender. And there's a chance to come home again later in his career -- 34 is still young enough to be an effective reliever.

In addition to the Perkin;s quote I also like Bernadino line on they probably wouldn't trade him without an in house option in mind. Tonkin perhaps?

I really doubt that they are going to get offered 50% more than his value. If the Phillies trade Papelbon sooner rather than later it would be easier to speculate on Perkin's trade value.

I really like Perk but I also really hope someone makes an offer Ryan Can't refuse. We still need more top of the rotation prospects. A high ceiling SS would be an option too but I am not as inclined as others to oust Florimon. He is fun to watch play defense. A little better approach at the plate and his offense should be very acceptable given what he adds defensively.

Not much new here. I really like Berardino though, and read anything of significance he posts. I feel like he has a great approach to his job.

 

I'm guessing JR is going to hold his cards pretty tight. If things go right the Twins will be a playoff caliber team in 2015 and more from then on. Next year they could even surprise people.
