My immediate thought is:

How bad is Grayson's arm? The medicals have to have a question mark.

Pre-Arb with 4 years of control traded for an OF with 1 year of control left at 13 million?

Agreed with this. Ward is a good player, and this is definitely a gamble. Even if Rodriguez misses time, this is 4 years of value.

Agree 100%. Additionally, the O's have plenty of position players & were already in need of pitching.

13 Millions is a decent price for what Ward produced last season.

However... we are still talking about the Orioles and 13 million is 13 million that can't be spent elsewhere and their pockets have always had limitations.

PItching has been often quoted by many as the primary need in Baltimore so... everything just loudly points to what is wrong with Grayson.

Currently Baltimore has Ward, O'Neil, Cowser, Beavers, Kjerstad, Taveras and Trimble for 40 man OF options. None of them are decent CF candidates too my knowledge.

My guess is that Baltimore could be headed toward some decent size turnover this off-season.

Leody Taveras came up as a guy who could go get it in CF. I don't know what he's like these days (I don't watch a lot of Leody highlights) so I'm not sure what his CF prospects are now, but I'd guess his bat is the far bigger concern.

I don't really understand this trade. It's very interesting. Feels like Baltimore is starting to really regret their refusal to move prospects for MLB pieces the last few years and now they're trying to be more aggressive. Possibly because Elias is feeling some heat.

In addition, adding a player like Ward with only one year of control at that price point tells me the Orioles are still interested in competing, which means they are really on the lookout for quality, relatively cheap pitching.

Can anyone think of a team in a position to potentially move some quality, relatively cheap pitching?  I can think of one.

Sure, but not for outfielders

The other really interesting piece to this trade is that the Angels agreed to the trade and didn’t require any medical evaluation for Rodriguez…Rodriguez himself confirmed it on the foul territory podcast.  Other podcasts that I listened to speculated that if the Angels get 150-200 innings out of him over the next 4 years, they come out ahead.

Elias is definitely gambling with this trade, but maybe they try to extend Ward?
