I like to look at the organization that these coaches come from. So I take priority over MIL & CLE coaches. I like Ron Washington's focus on fundamentals. CO don't fire their coaches so they have a lot of coaching experience. But I wouldn't want to hire any of them, because I don't like the organizational system.

With a name like Vazquez, he should be smart, right? Him being bilingual is a big plus. but I can't comment on his baseball smarts , convictions, or philosophy. Which is very important to me.

Nice to see a strong interest in guys WITH actual coaching / minor league managing experience.

I posted this elsewhere, but the Twins ALWAYS go with the inexperienced manager. The last time they hired a manager with MLB experience was Gene Mauch in 1976. Seriously, that’s 50 years. And of those eight hires since 1976 the only two that weren’t promoted from within the organization were Mauch and Rocco Baldelli.

When Rocco was hired it was good to see horizons raised above the level of the staff Christmas party list.  This time they may actually accept that previous MLB experience might be more than expensive.  One can hope...

MLB Trade Rumors and the New York Post are reporting that the Yankees have granted the Twins permission to speak with James Rowson about the managerial vacancy. They also mentioned Derek Shelton as a potential candidate with whom the Twins have spoken or are going to speak.

I like all three candidates, but leans toward Shelton because he is prior managerial experience. What does the rest of the world think?

On the one hand, they were part of some good success here. On the other hand they were both already here, and maybe we need a fresh voice more than a turn back to the good ol' days voice.

I don't think you can blame Shelton for all the ills of Pittsburgh, but they did get the new manager bounce when he was sacked.

This makes sense to me. He's got a really solid background as a former player, and MILB manager and ML coach. I LOVE the bilingual aspect.

He's also young enough to identify with younger players while still embracing newer approaches to the game.

He's got a good resume. And I really appreciate the idea that he'd be the 1st manager in Twins history to be of color. (I hate that terminology).

I only care if he's the best man for the job. Same as reported interest in Rowsen.

I want someone smart enough to relate to the players, who is discipled enough to hold players accountable, and who will put together a staff of coaches to provide the best for the Twins going forward.

I also want someone "ballsy" enough to challenge Falvey about his decisions in regard to coaches and roster.

Wouldn't you want the same?

Ray Miller was an outside hire.  I'm not insisting on big league managerial experience but at least some time on a bench somewhere post playing career.  Sounds like they may have read my mention of Nick Punto this morning.........
