I thought someone already photoshopped the Marlins hat on him to use for this article. The M hat still hasn’t grown on me at all.

Fixed that :)

On another note, the Marlins are probably in some serious hot water regarding payroll, and I don't think they're likely to be able to fix it. Nobody wants to play for them. Probably even worse than the Athletics' reputation at this point.

Yeah Stringer, I agree.  These were just a couple of interesting trades other people had posted on BBTV.  The deal for Pasquantino could work if the Royals are considering playing Sal Perez at 1B more and let younger guys catch.  Like I said, their OF is pretty punchless.  Larnach would essentially replace Vinnie in the batting order at a different position.

The deal with the Reds gives them a LH bat in the OF.  Steer has more versatility defensively so he probably makes more sense.  But CES is probably terribly undervalued right now due to some injury issues.  (I don't know what BBTV values CES at).  My memory of him in the Twins system is that he was a higher rated hitter than Miranda.  He doesn't just have power, he hit and got on base in the minors.  He could be a cheap option at 1B/DH if the Twins wanted some affordable power.

There are those on TD who have always questioned the Mahle trade.  Getting one of those guys back might be "karmic."

Friedl in CF for Reds - LH…..Will Benson in RF for Reds - LH ……..Jake Fraley in RF or LF or DH for Reds - LH ………..3 of 5 rostered OF are LH!

The latest Twins moves:  Singing LH Coulomb for the pen and Bader to be the 4th OF leaves the Twins in an interesting position.  They've made a couple signings that will help, at least with OF defense and the pen, but the question remains...are they still looking to cut payroll?  Vasquez? Paddack?

There were a couple interesting trades posted on BBTV that caught my attention.

Trade #1  Trevor Larnach 28 y/o OF 21.7 value and Chris Paddack (2.8) to the KC Royals for 27 y/o 1B Vinnie Pasquantino.  With Bader the 4th OF and E-Rod on the way possibly by mid-season, Vinnie P. would give the Twins a solid and long term 1B.  Willi Castro could be the LH hitting LF.  The Royals have one of the worst OF's in the A.L. Central:  MJ Melendez, Kyle Isbel and Hunter Renfroe.  They could use a guy like Larnach.  After trading Brady Singer this off season the Royals could use a guy like Paddack and the Twins shed $7.5 million in salary.

For all the talk about needing a RH OF bat, Bader brings the defense but not really much bat.

The other trade also involves Larnach, who remains a strong trade chip to balance the roster, especially with the eventual arrivals of E-Rod and Walker Jenkins.  This would be Larnach straight up for 27 y/o Spencer Steer who could play LF, 1B and even some 3B if needed.

Steer and Pasquantino are each one year younger than Larnach, but they each have values very close to Larnach.  It's just a re-balancing of the Twins roster.

Steer is a fixture in Cincinnati. 156 games & 158 games last 2 seasons. Team voted him MVP after Rookie campaign in ‘23. 58 XBH in ‘24 and played 4 different positions.

Pasquantino missed 4 weeks with a wrist/hand injury in ‘24. He had 97 RBI in the middle of the Royal’s line-up. Trading him at all will not happen. Trading him to a Division rival certainly will not happen. For any media platform to suggest he would be traded seems like a huge stretch.

Marlins probably aren’t a real trade partner.

Paddack is potentially solid for 85-100 innings in a season at this point. Am hoping he gets half dozen starts (1 per month) and works from the PEN a couple innings at a time a couple outings per week. His stuff plays well if only seen once in an outing by the opposition & he can work at more of a max effort in short stints of 25-35 pitches.

Paddack needs to stay in the paddock and provide 90+ innings from there.

When you trade a pitcher, you trade from your own depth. I am not sure the Twins have that depth right now. Yes, they probably have 5 starters Lopez, Ryan, Woods Richardson, Ober, Festa. two in excess, Paddack, Matthews. Then the injuries start to pile up and you have to start promoting prospects, be they ready or not..

Actually, that was my first reaction too! That new hat still doesn't feel "Twins" to me.
