This wasn’t even that close of a game, was it

Wash pretty much had their way + Goff was bad and maybe concussed for half of game

Kind of crazy to me that coordinators are allowed to interview for jobs when they’re in the playoffs. Not that Johnson and Glenn are the first to have done it and lost. But it’s never a good look. What’s another few weeks to hire a coach?

So just so I'm clear, the lions 15-2 season was meaningless, right?

Well, they at least won the division.

But yeah, pretty much. 15-2 and did nothing with it. Maybe meaningless is not the word to use, but it’s ultimately a failure.

Allen, Jackson, Mahomes, Stafford, Daniels and Hurts are the QBs left in the playoffs.

I'd swap out Burrow for Hurts, but otherwise you might have the list of the best QBs in the league, and I don't think that's a coincidence. You can't have one of the average QBs or even one of the good QBs, you have to keep trying until you have one of the elite QBs.

Hey, maybe with the Lions now taking the mantle of NFC North chokers, the Vikings can loosen up and go on a championship run?

Only kidding a little, because the choke stigma is clearly a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well, I think they’ve got to feel extra bad because this was probably their best shot. Unknown if their coordinators will return next season, but it would be stunning to see them have a repeat performance and land the 1 seed. 1 seeds rarely rarely don’t get out of the divisional round. Most teams don’t get chances like that often. And the lions never had it before. Certainly they’ll still be around but this looked like their best shot ever. Their fans have to feel sick.

If both coordinators go, it will be interesting to see if Dan Campbell's knee-jerk instincts get even less reigned in.

Anyone he hires to replace the coordinators are now certainly going to be enablers only catering to their coaches well known impulses.

Sean McVay gave up Goff and a crap ton of draft picks for Stafford.  If it wasn't evident before: QBing matters.  Goff got swallowed up by the moment, gave in to the pressure, and made a bunch of terrible throws.  No coach and no game plan can account for what your QB decides to do on the field.

Yes, Johnson called an absolutely terrible trick play that did major damage to the team, but Goff threw 4 picks, including a pick 6.

The only coaching mistake I saw was thinking that an all-out blitz attack was going to be viable against Daniels.  It only worked against Darnold because he completely lost his ability to use his brain and throw the ball.  Daniels showed how you make quick decisions, step up in the pocket, and throw available routes underneath.

Vikings need their Stafford/Allen/Daniels.

Detroit had one good defensive game in the last two months..... My faith in O'Connell isn't great

I'm going to plant my stake pretty hard on this prediction:

Much like Cousins this year, Darnold is going to show in the years to come just how ridiculous it was that he won 14 games.  Or that Cousins won 13 two years ago.  KOC was single-handidly lifting mediocrity (or worse) to levels higher than it deserved.

If JJ is more than mediocrity, your faith will be restored.  It ain't the scheme or the play-caller - it's the QB.

(That said, it's clear the team needs to invest into a better rushing attack, but I bet KOC would agree on that.  The Wilf's mandate not to blow things up and rebuild has made this thing a piecemeal rebuild)

I do think Goff was playing a bit loopy though, that was a vicious hit (and dirty). Directly into the sternum. Then again, he wasn’t so hot against the Vikings either most of that game

If Ben Johnson moves on, I bet we see how much he was propped up too.

Yeah, Campbell isn’t the X’s and O’s type I don’t think, so you’d expect a drop off somewhat if the OC leaves

Looking at their schedule, I'm pretty sure I've watched every Lions game since week 13. I'm making no declarations about O'Connell with this statement, but the Lions brought 10x more intensity to the Vikings game than any of those other matchups. They absolutely played like Week 18 was their Super Bowl.

I am NOT going to plant a stake at this time, but I agree that the QB situation was worse than it appeared on the field.
