I will bet on him lasting over 1 year - their past two minority coaches in Bowles and Saleh each got canned in Year 4.

Though it is interesting that he hasn't taken the offer yet... the rumors say the Saints have him as their #1 option as well.

Rodgers is bad again.  Jets lose a bunch.  Jets in position to draft a new QB.  Hire offensive young coach for their QB so they fire Glenn.

Now Jacksonville fired their GM after multiple coaching candidates turned them down because of the incumbent GM. Hard to imagine an organization fumbling the bag worse than the Jaguars

They staunchly kept the same dummy who hired Urban Meyer and then had two coaches turn them down because he was there.....then fired him once that happened.

It's a master class in stupidity.

I believe that's now 3 head coaching candidates that are heavily suspected to have said no to Jacksonville - Byron Leftwich (who was close to taking the job before Pederson did but insisted on his own GM), Ben Johnson, and Liam Coen. I don't think they have somebody out of left field like Belichick, I think it has to do with Coen choosing to return to the Bucs earlier today.

Jones can be surprisingly stubborn and this feels like a Jones hire. So he might let him stay longer than normal. But I don't think it's a good hire. They need outside voices.

Yeah, he's a legacy coach (Schottenheimer), has been coaching in the league since !!!1997!!! and has never gotten a serious look before.

Man would I love to hear the gossip on why Baalke is hated that much in coaching circles.  We know some of it, but I bet the details are juicy.

Coen went from a first time OC 12 months ago after Canales got the Panthers job to suddenly being a HC, getting to pick (or at least being part of the team to pick) the next GM and a hefty salary. Wow.

Can't say for the inside sources, but Baalke is known for winning a power struggle in San Francisco and getting Jim Harbaugh fired despite the fact he only had one mediocre year out of 4 there. Then the team immediately went downhill as he hired Jim Tomsula (a lame duck DL coach) and then Chip Kelly, getting canned himself just to resurface as the Jags GM and embarrass himself a second time. Backing Urban Meyer and drafting Travon Walker over Aidan Hutchinson are just a couple of mega blunders he has made.

The picking his own GM part is definitely crazy.

But man....it feels like Doug Pederson, in coaching circles, is absolutely trashing this guy to get something like this to happen.  I can't remember a GM in a sport being so riveled by coaches that multiple dudes turn down jobs solely because of him.

He definitely sucks at his job, but this is a level of suck we just don't see often.

I like the new dysfunctional dynamic that's going on in Tennessee.  Where the assistant GM somehow got the ear of the owner, got the GM fired, then got himself promoted OVER the GM position.

The Titans are absolutely going to bungle the #1 pick.

Funny how now two OCs have gotten jobs because they worked miracles with Baker Mayfield. Like wow, the guy picked at 1.01 can actually play football?!? Who would have figured! It must be the genius OCs who should immediately become head coaches!

Right. It was a prefect pick. That team is a mess, he'll probably be there just long enough to clean everything up. Seems like a situation where he'll point the club in the right direction, maybe not get them quite to the top, but close enough where everyone will talk about the legacy he left behind.

Or at least, I'm guessing that's the script Brady and company are currently writing.

I was thinking about this after nick's link about Tennessee:

Has there ever been a year where more of the league's dumbest franchises have all been dumbing their way through the hiring process?  

Chicago, Jets, Raiders, Dallas, Titans, Jags.....these are some of the NFL's consistently stupidest teams.  And they are stupiding extra hard this year.

Seems pretty surprising that the Texans are firing Bobby Slowik.  He was supposed to be getting HC offers this year.

I know Houston's offense took a step back, but it's still better than people expected it to be before Slowik took over. I wonder if something else is going on there, this was really late to fire a coordinator.

Also, I wonder if Slowik will find his way over to Detroit.

I think a lot, but not all, of the new "dumb" can be traced to the owners of those teams inserting themselves into the team more than they had before. I'm not sure if that's a reflection of society and billionaires right now - "you are so smart!" - or just a coincidence. But the idea that a simple trade for a WR could be vetoed by the owner over a Madden rating is stupid.

In the NFL coaches get hired and rehired no matter how incompetent they were at their previous stop.  If total stupidity isn't enough to prevent them from getting another job, why should a pulse be any different?  :)
