I understand what you’re saying but I’ve had several giants fan friends texting me “good luck” already today 😂

Dang that sucks. That you have friends who are Giants fans. 😆

Intriguing. This is clearly to see if he's the backup next year, and free insurance if Darnold is hurt. Unless he's a total jerk, I can't see anything but upside.

I'm clearly a Jones denier but I'm not sure about the backup gig.

I count PIT, NYJ, CLE, LVR and NYG as clearly looking for a QB next year. Possibly NO and LAR if they're looking to cut their vets and restart, and less likely IND, TEN and CAR if they want to move on from Richardson, Levis or Young. And that's not accounting for anyone getting injured between now and next September.

It looks like there may only be two draft eligible QBs who are worthy of going in the 1st round and could possibly start week 1.

Then looking at free agents to fill those holes, I have Darnold and Russell Wilson as getting starting jobs (possibly re-signing with their current clubs) then Derrick Carr and Matt Stafford if their teams move on. Aaron Rodgers likely gets a job (possibly undeservedly) as well if he continues playing.

So my math says at minimum two and most likely three or more jobs are open for very undesirable QBs and the free agent field is Jameis Winston, Justin Fields, Joe Flacco, Gardner Minshew, Andy Dalton and Daniel Jones. I think the odds are better than not that Jones lands as a starter somewhere as I'd guess most teams would see him as 1st or 2nd amongst this list of less desirable QBs.

I lived in the Philly area (Wayne and Langhorne) for six or seven years in the 2000s. Eagle fans were just the worst.

Knee deep in Cowboy trash here.

Still no loss. What's the downside here?

No downside. I think Mullens' style is a better fit for the offense, but if either he or Jones has to take over, I don't see the offense being good enough to win a playoff game.

You know what’s funny? Mullens had 3 games of 300+ yards for us last season in only 4 starts

Jones has had nine 300+ yards games…

for his entire career (71 starts)

Mullens could be better. For his career, he has the better comp % and better rating. He does throw interceptions at twice the rate but still, he could be better.

But Jones has only played for the Giants with bad coaching and Giant QBs tend to have worse numbers partly because they play in the elements. Eli Manning has a lower comp % and rating than Mullens, too.

But Jones is three years younger than Mullens and I'm ok with the team taking a look for next year.

Brilliant move! He costs a pitance for the Vikings for the remainder of the season as the Giants are on the hook for his salary.

Darnold spent a year on the bench in SF in a good system with a good staff to learn, grow, and shake off his past. Now he's in a great system, with talent around him, and looking a lot like the talented QB he was supposed to be. Assuming he's gone next season, it will be up to him to go to a team that offers talent and a good staff to continue his career trajectory.

If Jones is smart about his career, and doesn't just jump at any offer to some miserable team that needs a QB, he'd take a backup offer from the Vikings and follow Darnold's path. Now, Mullens isn't a horrible backup by any means. But Jones is younger, more athletic, and has at least flashed some in his career. But a year with the Vikings might provide him a rebuild to his career where another team might give him a Darnold like opportunity in 2026. He'd be smart to follow that path.

The Vikings have zero risk involved here.

Not just any INT. Some of the dumbest INTs I have ever seen a Vikings QB throw in my lifetime. Mullens is a the type of player with the mentality of a 97 MPH power pitcher, but throws 87 MPH instead.

Out of all of those teams you named, Pittsburgh is the only stable organization. Daniel Jones could take the money and run I suppose, but he's bound to fail if he does. He is taking the smart, calculated route right now going to a stable organization to extend his NFL career. If he goes to a team like the Raiders next year and fails, he will be out of the NFL by 2026.

Just saw the news— excellent scouting work @Vanimal46

I knocked Jones earlier but am a fan of this move. I am a big believer in hyped up QBs needing to carry the clipboard for a while, and I do t think Jones ever really got to do that. This might be the right setting   for Jones to decompress and  reset.

Is Daboll bad coaching? He was hired because he turned the very raw Josh Allen into one of the best QBs in the league.

Maybe that was a fluke, but Daboll arguably has a better resume than O’Connell, and the only reason he was brought to the Giants was because the idea was that if Daniel Jones had any chance at being saved, this was the guy to do it.

I mean, you could make the argument. 2022 was a pretty good year and he won coach of the year. Since then, Jones has gone backwards and the Giants have gone 8-20. Who knows?
