Absolutely time to move on, but I wish him well.

For as rough as 2024 was, his versatility coupled with his league average bat was a key contribution to the 2023 team's success. Thanks Kyle and good luck.

Shocking news.  I was also taken by surprise that the sun rose a little later this morning than yesterday.

Good luck to Kyle.  Like most major leaguers, he has memories that most of us would die to have.  He can probably hang around as a player for a while, if that's his desire.  Or he can move on to the next phase of his life, inside the game or outside of it, just like every other player who reaches the end of the line.

Ranked 111 of 111 free agents....

Impressive. I'd venture to guess that a guy who can (barely) play SS is rarely the last guy on the list. That spot is probably usually reserved for no-name relievers, AAAA catchers, starters with a +7.00 ERA or CORNER bats who can neither hit or field.

95% sure some team will sign him for $1.75M or similar…….maybe a “make the 26-man” contract, ranging from $300K to come to Spring Training and some realistic ($1.75M) salary if he makes the team out of Spring Training……certainly nowhere near $5-$6M.

Pretty sure the $5M days are history.

Perhaps.  The dropoff in demand can be pretty rapid though.  He was quoted as expressing surprise that his contract was tendered this past off-season, and his stock dropped further with his output this year.  Minor-league offer with a spring invite was what I had in mind when I said he could try to continue.  A guaranteed major league contract of any size will surprise me.  He seems like a good guy and if he wants a role in the game he can probably have one but as a non-player.

Prepare to be shocked again tomorrow morning (if you don’t turn your clocks back) 🙂

I went to my pool this morning at 7:30 to get ready for a swim at eight.  The front desk employee was arguing with an elderly woman who was already in the pool and apparently hadn't heard that daylight savings had ended.  "But look at the clock, it says 8:30."  Finally he gave up.
