Who draws the short straw for the Varland recall?

It also is likely that Buxton will be activated on Friday, which will mean that a position player will have to go.

I guess Tonkin because he pitched last night?

Hellman seems to be the likely choice to go when Buck's back.

I'd assume Helman for Buxton.

I'd guess Tonkin for Varland. He pitched last night, and is somewhere near the bottom of the bullpen pecking order.

Edit: Ninja'd. Dammit!

They'll play shorthanded until Friday?

I guess it's the Twins so that's certainly possible.

Yes and no. I would expect that they'll wait another day to see if Kepler will be able to go and then probably put him on the IL. They can backdate three days IIRC. That would mean that they would play with a 27-man roster on Thursday if Kepler were placed on the IL and they actually would be playing short the next two days (as they have on Monday and Tuesday).

Which means Kepler to the IL has nothing to do with Helman, right? Unless they play with an unusable Kepler on the bench until Friday, then IL him.

What they SHOULD do is activate Buxton today, and make the Kepler decision today.

Why they insist on playing short handed every year is beyond me.

Why are we pushing everyone back a day? Wasn't today supposed to be Pablo day?

I was wondering the exact same thing.  I mean, our pen is stretched pretty thin already, and now we go with what is essentially a bullpen game?  Sure, maybe we can get 5 innings out of Varland...  I hope.  Apologies if the rationale was explained elsewhere, but I'm not getting it.

Interesting. Looks like that line-up completely ignores the openers and goes with the bulk starters. If it is Alexander, better believe Rocco has Helman, Farm Dog and Martin ready!

Curious, those line ups list different starters too.

And no more signs* or portends discussed before this game?

I like to think resting starters to line them up for the next series or serieses... (what is the plural of series?) is something teams that have clinched do. But that would be hubris. (or a jinx, take your pick.)

*not even wall drug signs?

So now Lewis is our new utility player.  Put him at SS and Lee at 2B, where he is more comfortable.  You can't keep moving players around like a chess board.

Now there's a thought!

Can we advance one of the rookies to the warning track, and promote them to Byron Buxton?

Yeah, it's from Rotowire, so it probably shows the primary/bulk guy for fantasy purposes. I guess between that and the OP, everything is covered.

They may be trying to to push Pablo back to Friday to start against KC. They could pitch Matthews Thursday on 4 days rest since he pitched Saturday, give Pablo an extra day, and go Lopez, Ober, SWR in KC.

Time for the bats to wake up.

Would cover a great many pitching deficiencies if we could even muster five runs a game.

If we mustard 5 runs a game (as on Monday apparently) would we ever see the end of the condiment jokes?
