Cory Engelhardt Verified Member Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 My order of preference in terms of the deals would be... 1) Jeremy's deal 2) Jamie's deal 3) Theo's deal Luzardo and Meyer coming back would be electric. I'm not sure Seattle would trade Gilbert, and I'm not really too enamored with Theo's deal and how that would help in the 2024 season. Fun talker! Doctor Gast 1

jorgenswest Verified Member Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I think Theo’s deal is most realistic. Trades for Luzardo or Gilbert are going to need a better headliner. If the Twins aren’t willing to part with someone better than Lee or Julien another team will step in if either of those is truly available.
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Great to watch you guys exchange ideas and then converse. The Twins are definitely in a tough spot as far as getting a deal done for a really good pitcher. Your comments and hesitations indicate how difficult it would be to pry away someone like Gilbert or Luzardo. Theo just skips to a deal that Atlanta would find attractive. Not a bad plan but also not really needed either. Interestingly, you guys are skeptical about Emmanuel Rodriguez emerging as a true MLB player of value, so see that now is a good time to trade him. I'm holding him. Shift over to viewing the Twins roster from another perspective and you all clearly believe Royce Lewis (the guy who will actually make a Seattle or Miami trade happen) is off the table. This will be the price though unless the Twins overpay which will then surely weaken the team. I fully believe in Varland, as mentioned by Theo, and think the Twins are in a good place right now with their offense and pitching staff. Yes, for sure, Gilbert (or Kirby) is a guy I would want pitching for the Twins. The price may just be too high. I know i have played around with nearly identical ideas but am bullish on the offense for this season and the emergence of Varland. Festa may contribute as well. Fun thoughts though. Thanks. Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 IMO Luzardo is the one to target. IMO MIA is serious about trading Arraez because they can't afford his extention. We can rope in MIL who needs a 2B & can trade Adames (SS). We can basically trade Jeffers & Julien for Luzardo. We can work something out for Strobel. I'd bring in a 4th team to make it happen. PS Luzardo will work great with Lopez. I'm a big believer in what E Rod can do, he's valued too low. I really like Myers but hate to give up another Minnesotan for him. IMO Varland is much more reliable than Myers is right now. Cabrera (MIA) has the potential to be a PS SP if the Twins think they can fix his command,
