Rhys Hoskins is a helluva bat. It isn't that he would not help. It is that his contract will be well beyond what the Twins are paying. Math can be simple and the Twins are looking for trades to acquire good talent that is not costly. They have already passed on a few players that may have been good fits if not for the greenbacks needed to sign them. It would be quite surprising to see a sudden shift now.

One thing that has not been brought up is that Hoskins is a Boras client. Boras will keep him (Hoskins) on the market until he (Boras) gets the best deal available. That being said, I see Gallo signed around this tie last season, so maybe a Hoskins signing is imminent somewhere.

Thanks…although, doesn’t change my take on Miranda for 2024…performance or injury, he’s not a guy a serious team would pencil in as a starter next season. No defensive flexibility or value and big questions offensively now. Of course, the Twins are flashing obvious signs of not being a serious team next year, so…

They win the division (weak as it was) and a short playoff series then cut payroll the next year.  Pohlads are not serious about competing for a League Championship let alone WS title.

How? The Twins have 15-20M to spend even before off loading Kepler and/or Polanco, which sounds like something they are intent on doing.

He had shoulder issues even before spring training 2023. He didn't play 3b at all until the last game(s) of spring training because he couldn't throw. I HAVE to think that played a part in him not hitting well, even early on this past season.

If his shoulder is right, I have quite a bit of faith that he can bounce back a bit in 2024. I don't know that that means for production, but I do think it'll be better than what his 2023 showed.

Miranda is an interesting case. His stats in the minors and his rookie season project him as a good hitter, but not a 30-homer guy. He's never been thought of as a good glove at any position he's played, so his bat will have to carry him. That means he needs to have a well-above-average OPS without either great power or on-base skills. That's a tough needle to thread in today's strikeout heavy environment.

Miranda did just that in his rookie season. He walked and struck out below league average, used the whole field and had enough extra-base hits to come up with a 114 OPS+ while hitting 15 homers. I can visualize a similar line if he's totally healthy. That makes him a solid major league player, but not someone to build around. Miranda is young and cheap. Hopefully, he regains his form and helps the Twins in 2024.

This goes back to the budget for 2024. Are the Twins already at their ceiling? Do you believe the Twins will settle at $140 million? If you believe the Twins will go to $140 million or higher for 2024, then there is room to spend $15-20M and add Rhys Hoskins. If the number is at or close to the current figure of @$125M, then there isn't any do-re-mi. That is how. It isn't really something to care about or really discuss but I thought I should address your question. Personally, I would like the Twins to set their roster budget near $175 million. Sadly, they have not contacted me.

Nobody said that it was going to be at the current figure. It was just expected to be less than last year. And again, that's still with Kepler and Polanco's contracts, which the Twins beat continues to say are being moved.

Exactly, we don't know. We get to guess though. What is your guess?

I'd take Polanco over Hoskin any day. We'd have to trade both Polanco & Kepler (at bargain basement) to come up with enough money to sign Hoskin. What are the Twins thinking of? Just move Julien to 1B & have him play 1B until Kiriloff is ready & then have them rotate 1B/ DH & later have Kiriloff rotate in the OF. Then we'll improve our 2B & OF by not trading Polanco & Kepler. Farmer can play 1B if Miranda doesn't work out but hope he does.
