Bummer. In some ways, it's more interesting how not-so-great players finish up their careers. Bouncing around the country (or world) hoping to get another shot. At least he got a WS ring.

Remembering some of the barbs we've thrown his way concerning his time in Minnesota, it's particularly nice to see someone care that much about the game. Hopefully there is a place for him in some organization once he officially retires from pitching.

Amen!! "We" "sometimes" "bash" people for hanging around too long, or not being as good as we hoped. This guy has been in the game for 20+ years and for it to (potentially) end like that is so sad. It's great that some just care about it that much! It's unfortunate it takes something like that to remind us.

I agree 100% with your comment. You gotta feel bad for him blowing out his elbow at his age. He pretty much threw his last pitch ever, no time for surgery and rehab and to hope someone will give you another chance at 40+.

Too bad he have a "Kenny Powers comeback" to the majors and then just walk away on his own terms.

Sad to watch. You have to respect a guy that fights like hell to keep doing what he loves. By all accounts he is a stand up guy (at least to my knowledge). He had a solid Miguel Batista-type of career.

This is something I love and hate. It's too bad that injuries kill careers, but at the same time, the immediate recognition and disgust remind us how the passion of the game still exists. It's tough to remember with the monetizing occurring in the new era. I think a lot of these players who don't get much spotlight and attention enjoy the game much more than the stars. I empathize with Ramon.

Wow, that really got to me. The fact that these guys make a lot of money doesn't change the fact that (most) of them really like doing what they do, that it's all they ever known, and that it can be taken from you in an instant. You'd have to be sub-human not to feel for him.

Reminds one of Brad Radke ... although Brad just ended because he didn't want/need to go thru surgery. Happily, Ramon will collect his major league salary for he remainder of the year, and get his arm repaired as a member of the Blue Jays organization. He has enough spunk and spirit that he can roll into a coach or adviser position. Amazing his tour since he left the Twins!
