Let's adjourn the Buxton rhetoric until next spring.

I'm hopeful that Byron will return to the Twins active duty roster next year.  What I don't look forward is belaboring all his issues over the off season.  It's obvious the level of transparency concerning Buxton and his condition is not very lucid.  We get some facts, some projections and a whole lot of guessing.

I hope his surgery was as successful as first mentioned.  Let's hibernate this discussion and revisit when spring training starts.  We have plenty of other players and team personnel to talk about and explore.  Let Buxton alone, to recover and rehabilitate.

Any supposition on how things will turn out & how he’ll play or not next year is strictly guesswork/fantasy.

As I stated somewhere else tonight, it is my assumption that his best case is 40 games in CF - 80 games at DH - 10 games as pinch hitter - 30 games off (20% of the schedule) ………..this doesn’t have anything to do with his surgical results - I guess it assumes success - but it relates to preserving his ability to be in the line-up.

BEFORE ‘23 Byron played 140 games one year……….,the other 7 years he averaged 76 games per season. He played 85 games in ‘23.

IF he’s got a reasonable knee spring of ‘24, if used the way he has been prior to ‘23, he’ll break down due to some unknown. Need to temper his efforts - needs rest - we all know we don’t NEED his defense, it’s just entertaining.

I don't read any Buxton comments on this site anyway. Sorry, but I find I generally don't care what people here have to say about him. Except heezy1323, of course.

We can defer whatever discussions we wish, but the FO does not have that luxury, and so if we're all playing "the home version of the game," we might want to follow along.  It's not a matter of guesswork/fantasy - it is scenario planning, and there is a wider range of scenarios for Buxton than just about anyone else.  The FO has to plan around failure (Buxton still is no go), but they also have to plan around success (Buxton is a true asset for whatever number of games), and their off-season planning has to cover the negative while not making it impossible to cash in if the positive happens. 

"I think Buxton will be 100%, come Opening Day" is of course the futile kind of guesswork or downright fantasy that deserves to be made fun of, ditto "Buxton will retire", but that doesn't mean intelligent discussion about his situation isn't possible or even fun.

If someone sees a thread about Byron and thinks it's a waste of time, there's no rule compelling any members to take part by posting, anyway.

As well intentioned as the thread may have been, there obviously will be no moratorium on Buxton speculation, thus this discussion will only serve to rile up those who want to talk about it. Locking this thread.
