I’m sorry to have to go there, but enough already..  Besides all the trips to the DL, I’m not sure if he has the temperament for the game.  Major League Baseball is a grind and the true pros play it for about 7 months every year.  This guy does not even get in half the games his team plays.

There is no WHY for that any longer, in my opinion.  Availability might be the most important skill and he just doesn’t have it.  He’s given us sufficient evidence for me to say that.  If anyone wants to “think positive” and dream of a best case scenario go ahead and be my guest.  It’s just I am not going to expect something different from him when he hits 30.  Could he have another 2017?  Yeah.  Just as well as he could repeat last year’s performance.

The cold reality is we signed him long term so we are stuck for at least two or three more years.  if we learned anything Buxton isn’t essential to the Twins having success.  It’s best that we just think of 2024 without him in the picture.  He’s not a central player in this and that is just kinda sad.

Buxton knee surgery and Kirilloff shoulder surgery. 2 days after the playoffs end. So Buxton went on the IL in August. Did some rehab. Had a setback. Was put on the roster for game 4. Has 1 AB. And now surgery is scheduled. Why not back in August when he went down? Kirilloff. They rested him. He played well down the stretch but started falling off as the year ended. They acknowledged the problem but let it go until he couldn't swing a bat??? He was getting shots just so he could play. Some of the decisions are really puzzling. I know guys want to play. Playoffs and all but if you're injured how is playing helping the team or yourself.

Makes me wonder about Correa too. No way that guy is fully healthy.

This is the way I see it too. If Buxton is healthy, it'll be a nice bonus. But, I'm not optimistic and I'm certainly not counting on him for any set number of games or productivity in those games.

I'm pulling for him though. Would love to see just one full and healthy season to see what he could do. But at this point it's not only health, but age as well that might keep us from ever seeing that.

I agree. No matter how they want to present this. 2 teams did pass on deals that were double the years the Twins were offering. So did they get buyers remorse? I doubt it. The Giants and Mets both saw something they didn't like regarding the ankle. And then the foot issue. I know they're 2 separate things but can Twins now expect the same thing for the next 5 years? I hope not.

I'm optimistic that he'll figure it out. Though I'm not sure where that optimism is coming from, other than he seems motivated to continue on a Hall of Fame path. Hopefully his body is willing and he's more productive at the plate going forward.

Well Gallo is a far, far better fielder than Kirilloff; so keep Gallo around and when Kirilloff comes back, play  Kirilloff till defense is of utmost importantance and then put Gallo in.👍

Bringing back Gallo would be the worst conceivable move. I’d argue he had one of the worst seasons in baseball history in 2023.

Last season may have been the only time Gallo was even worse than Carlo Rossi.  Joey Gallo indeed had a 20/20 season, but this time that means more like Mad Dog 20/20.
