Contreras? He's a AAAA player. Why would you want him over Larnach or Wallner? Also, Stevenson? If you are going there, just call up Kiersey (neither of which I'd do).

I liked Contreras last year, but he just looked so bad with the Twins last year (.121/.148 .441 OPS, 33% strikeout ratio). Plus he's already 28, and his .780 OPS at AAA isn't very impressive with all of the other crazy numbers coming out of the AAA level.

I see that Martin is getting time in center field in his rehab. Hopefully that plays out and he recovers to hit as he did last fall in Arizona.Maybe we can see him in September if not sooner.

If the odds were good for them, being blocked here would promote other teams trading for them.  That could happen but you would have to conclude the entire league believes their odds of succeeding are low because they are still here.  The CBA is not the problem.

I am with you in spirit.  They have given the ML team adequate opportunity.  Switch it up.  Find out if any of the guys tearing up AAA can do it here.  DFA Gallo today and get Wallner up here and I would be fine with letting MAT go as well although he is not here for his bat.  IL Buxton too.  These changes would open up two 40 man roster spots.  Hello Wallner and Williams.

I know we are not arguing. However the CBA with the roster limitations set forth is a huge road block for a 29 year old  Andrew Stevensom type.

I'm not taking issue with the agreement but its a bouncer at a nightclub that keeps the old uncool people out.

I see where you are coming from now.  The guys with a real shot at making it are generally on the 40 man and shuttled between AAA which gives them a shot at making it.  My thought was that the 40 man limitation makes the other guys available to teams that will give them a legit chance at a big league roster.  It also forces teams to trade these assets like the Twins did with Steer last year.   Maybe I am wrong but the current system seems like it forces redistribution of talent which is ultimately good for the players.   This takes more thought than I have given it so I hold no real strong opinions on this one.

No need to give it much thought. Its a kink in the system that was designed to... as you said... distribute talent and prevent teams from holding players.

Guys like Stevenson OPS 1,000 to deaf ears.

I'd be shocked if he didn't have surgery in September. But at least they are finally putting him where he should have been all along.
