Whitey333 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 The lackadaisical play Smith made on the good attempt to catch that liner is typical of Twins play under Baldelli. They dont hustle and seem to have no sense of urgency. Allowing that runner to go from second to third because he didn't hustle after the ball is inexcusable and a direct reflection on Rocco. Boring uninspired baseball is what we are being fed.

He was literally replacement value last year so they nothing. I would guess he bounces back but it may very well end up being a win to simply have not signed him to an extension of length he demanded. The have lost a 40 man spot since calling up SWR last year. Not saying that is bad or wrong, just a fact, if he turns out to not be good it would be wasted 40 man.

The Twins lost the opportunity cost of other deals that could have been made. Berrios has value at the time of the deal. They lost an opportunity to capitalize on that value. Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Maybe instead of the 4 year, $73.5 million extension they gave Lopez, they should have waited until after this Nationals start and got him for more like 4/72! wabene 1

Ha ha ha that's gotta be it! I crack myself up ha ha ha.... It does seem that guys who get big long term contracts go into coast mode until near the end of the contract. Oh well, it's only money. The fans will just have to cough up more, no worries.

And at the time of the trade it was praised by just about every outlet as an overpay for Berrios and that the Twins “stole” SWR as Martin was headlining the trade. It’s easy to go back now and want different prospects from the Jays or even a different organization, but hindsight is always 20/20.

My point was that if both Martin and SWR flop, we lose because we could have turned Berrios' trade value into something else, there were other teams that had given the Twins offers on him. Failing to turn 1.5 years of control of him into a single useful MLB player would be a loss in my book. Obviously too early to call, but the trade is looking questionable for both sides right now.
