Souhan: Lewis seems like star in the making

Jim Souhan started covering the Twins as a beat writer about 30 years ago. He has covered Kirby Puckett and Torii Hunter. Now, he's writing about Royce Lewis and using those two players for the type of player and leader that Royce Lewis can and will be.

It's his personality. It's his joy. It's his work ethic. It's his charisma. It's that he doesn't care where he plays, just that he can help the team win, and win championships.

Having known Royce going back to 2018, there's no question he has an "It Factor." He gets it, and he truly loves the game. It was good to see video of him running some sprints.

Here are a couple of the quotes from the article that illustrate these things.

Quote

Lewis doesn't look or act like an injured player, or a rookie, bouncing around the clubhouse and greeting teammates.

"My mind-set was that I want to be a part of this team, because I've got a lot of my buddies, my best friends, on this team, and I want to be a part of it," he said. "These are my brothers."

He's asked Twins officials how they view him. "They see me as a championship player, and I appreciate that, because that's how I see myself," Lewis said. "I also see myself as a player that can play anywhere. I can see myself playing second, third, short, center, left, right.

"My gratitude for the game makes it easy to adapt very quickly."

I've really liked everything that I've seen from Royce on and off the field.  The kid just needs to stay healthy!  I still think he can be a very integral part of this organization, and it would be so fun to watch him along with Buxton and Correa!  Similar to Buxton, I feel like we've been robbed of some very fun baseball with his injuries.

I still had Lewis as my number 1 prospect this year.  He is a 5 tool player with incredible versatility.  Last year he got me believing in his bat so I think as everyone has said it just comes down to Royce staying healthy at this point.  If the Twins can get some of these younger players to break through at the MLB level this is gonna be a fun team to watch for a while.

I have always liked his attitude  and that it would translate to a leader , we  need leaders to be aggressive and lead the team and I think Lewis will be the man ...

Please stay healthy  ...

I'm hoping we see 75 (or more) healthy games from Royce this year. He could lead a second half group of reinforcements that I hope will be available.

You're leaving out the most important thing: his talent.
