21 year old Eddie Rosario (not 22 until late Sept) is the 2nd baseman of the future (near future hopefully) for the MN Twins.

 

In his first 11 games, Rosario is one of many reasons Dougie-Baseball's FM Miracle are unbeaten.

 

.378 Average, .400 OBP, .556 SLG

 

11 runs, 5 doubles/HR/6RBI/2BB/10K and a steal, all from the #2 spot in the FM batting order.

 

Best wishes to him throughout this season, as he progresses toward Target Field.

2 more hits today for Rosario and another run scored. Also stalled a rally with a GIDP. Got another chance in the 7th, and lined a single to center. Pettersen was held, loading the bases for Sano's heroics. Hitting .388 after 12 games, 3rd best for the regulars, behind Sano and Koch, both over .400 thus far.

Rosario went 0-4 with a Walk on Thursday, 1 for his last 8 in past 2 games. Average is at .351

 

Has moved to the 3 spot in the order. Petterson has been bumped to leadoff, Angel Morales to the 2 spot for the 13-1 Miracle.

Rosario picked up his first triple in Monday's FM loss. 8 of his 26 hits so far are xbh, so the SLG is not surprisingly at .520 through 18 games. OBP currently is .378 with an average of .347, 4 walks/13K's

3 hit game for Rosario, has hit in 8 of last 10 games, 3 of those multi-hit games. 2 RBI's now has 15 in 20 games.

I just realized Rosario has yet to commit an error this year. His range factor is also up a bit from his previous two years--not the most precise stat, but encouraging nonetheless.

 

This is the year that he needs to show that he can play competent defense at second base, and so far so good

In regards to Rosario's defense, I just remember an interview Ruesse and Mackey did with Dougie Mientkiewicz in which he predicted that Eddy would be the opening day 2nd baseman for the Twins IN 2014! He didn't offer the same prediction for Sano (and wasn't asked), so I don't think he wasn't just blowing smoke...

Aside from the obvious defensive improvement needed I am interested in how much power he hits for. His scouting reports suggest more of a gap to gap hitter that can rack up doubles but maybe 10 HR's/yr. His rk/lowA stats do not agree with that though.

 

He is also off to a poor plate discipline start with a 16:4 K:BB ratio. Hopefully this starts improving.

He definitely seems like a bit of a free swinger, but his contact skills are obviously good since his strikeout percentage is only around 16% despite his aversion to walks.

 

To me it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect him to be able to hit 15-20 HRs/yr in his prime based on his performance, but we'll have to see.

Rosario's walk rate is currently 4%. Last year it was 7% and the year before was 9%.

 

That 7% walk rate is similar to what we saw from Ben Revere through his minor league career. There was much frustration about Revere's lack of walks but it should be a bit different with Rosario. Revere does not get extra-base hits. Only 16% of his hits were for extra bases he minors, so for the most part, Revere's hits were similar to getting a walk. Rosario is different obviously, 40% of his hits are for extra-bases, which is always a superior option to a walk.

Rosario had a double and clinching solo HR(#3) in Sunday's 8-7 FM win, drove in 2 runs and stole his 2nd base.

The Jinx finally hit Rosario. All that bragging about no E's had 2 in FM's 8-2 loss Sunday. Hit is 3rd triple of the year, 2-4 in a losing effort. Average has slumped to the .330s

3rd in FSL in runs scored(28-Sano #1 at 33), 8th in SLG, tied for 2nd in triples(4), 9th in OPS.

Eddie's been flying under the radar ever since Sano joined the organization, and even more so once Buxton was drafted last year, but he might be my favorite prospect. I'm hoping he starts to get some national attention, as he should be a top 50-75 type prospect by next year.

As an OF, they'd be nice, as a 2nd baseman, they're reason to consider him in that area of rankings.
