May ERA numbers for selected Twins starters after 3 starts:

Our rehabbing TJ pitcher sports a 5.06

Our fully healthy "pleasant surprise", better than his numbers, new ACE? 5.71

Twins SP ERA 2013: 5.30 (2nd Worst)

Twins SP ERA 2012: 5.40 (2nd Worst)

Through May 15th, Joe Mauer has K'd one fewer time than Aaron Hicks.

Update: Through May 19th, Mauer has K'd two more times than Aaron Hicks.

Got this "Fun Fact" from ESPN:

Ryan Dempster has induced misses on 55 percent of the swings taken against his splitter this year, the best rate in the league. The Twins have missed on 50 percent of the swings they have taken against splitters this year, tied for second worst in MLB.

RUH ROH!

That's what the heck fun, not haha fun.

On a serious note, do you know if Mauer has been asked or said anything about his higher k rate?

This really isn't a stat per se but I didn't know where else to put it.

In the Reds vs. Phillies game on Sunday, down 1 run, Delmon Young drew a 1 out walk in the bottom of the ninth. Looking to bring a little extra speed into the game Charlie Manuel called on his bench bringing in Cliff Lee to pinch run.

That's right. The 34 year old pitcher pinch ran for Delmon Young.

Wow, that's something you don't see very often...DY drew a walk.

It's May 20th and closer Glen Perkins leads the pitching staff in strikeouts.

Ouch. That's embarassing. Really.

Correia started the night 1 strikeout behind Perkins but after getting blasted in the first inning it seems unlikely he'll last long enough to get that tying K.

Here's something to ponder:

Last year, the triple crown winning AL MVP drove in 21.4% of runners that were on bases when he came to the plate. The NL MVP drove in 18.4%. Pujols drove in 18.2%.

The non-HR hitting Mauer? Well, he drove in 18.1%. Better than Fielder, Cano, Willingham, Wright, Beltre, and the list goes on and on...

It's a good thing he isn't a run producer...

ThePuck, as I told someone on a Vikings' message board the other day, if Mauer followed Mauer in the draft (figure that one out, Doctor), he'd be top 5 in RBI every year. It is about opportunity.

Barry Bonds career walk per season average: 116

Barry Bonds 2004 season intentional walk total: 120

Delmon Young career walk total: 150

Ole Delmy's got him beat by a bit now.

Last year, only 5 batters in baseball knocked in more runners from 2B than Mauer, only 6 batters in baseball knocked in more runners from 3B than Mauer.

Joe had 411 runners on last year while the guy who had Joe Mauer in front of him (Willingham) had 459 runners. If you apply Mauers RBI% to Willinghams total (%18.25) you get a total of 84 RBI. When you add in his 10 HR from last year you get a total of 94 RBI which would rank him tied for 25 in the MLB last year.

Part of that is accounted for in the difference in HRs...25 more HRs, 25 more RBI, plus 95 RBI.

Cool, thanks.....was about to type an odd circuluar thing, but I think your point is valid. Top 25, not top 5.....of course, my general point is also valid, that it is about opportunity, as much as SLG.

The point is, we took a run producer and turned him into a table setter.

Arcia's PH HR in Atlanta Wed night was the Twins first PH HR in almost three years. Who can name the last Twin to hit one?

Cuddyer.

Morneau.

Mauer.

Butera.

Yup. PHing for Guerrier in the 10th. I don't know if it's "fun w/ numbers," I just found great irony in the fact Son of Sal had the last Twins PH HR.

Thome also had a pinch HR in the 9th that game.
