Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 According to LaVelle (via Twitter), Pat Dean has been promoted to AAA. Will start Tuesday. With a career k/9 of 5.5, which has trended downward at every single level, it's pretty unlikely he ever contributes to the MLB club, would that be safe to assume?

That's always safe to assume, but you never know. He's been healthy all year. He profiles similarly to Duensing, so he could get up there if needed. Consider, he only has to be added to the 40 man roster after this season (not likely) and can't be a free agent for about 3 more years, it's too early to say anything worse than unlikely.
Steven Buhr Verified Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Brett Lee has been reactivated from the Kernels' DL and will start tonight in Beloit. Mike Gonzales went on the DL to make room for Lee. Mason Melotakis is not listed among the starting pitchers for the next run through the pitching rotation (6 games). Obviously, they're pulling back on the innings for guys like Lee and Melotakis. I'm sure they'd still like to have a start or two left in their allotment for the season when the playoffs roll around.
Smcginnity Provisional Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 The more I've read about Pat Dean and Logan Darnell, I see them both as Duensing clones. They will be crafty left handers out of the bullpen but by no means "long-term" options in the starting rotation.

They will be crafty left handers out of the bullpen but by no means "long-term" options in the starting rotation. I'd agree with that. Neither is a top prospect. I've had Darnell as high as maybe 22 on a prospect list. Dean was somewhere around there, but hasn't been on one of my Top 50 lists for probably more than a year. I have never had Andrew Albers on a top 50 list either. Duensing throws harder. (hits 94 at times out of the bullpen) Like Duensing, they were both drafted after three years in college; Dean and Duensing in the 3rd round, Darnell in the 6th round. They're left handed. They're at least intriguing.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Looks like Tim Wood is having shoulder surgery. The Twins can officially remove him from the 40-man (shades of Oliveros) when the offseason happens, probably still keeping him under contract just in case he returns before next season ends. But the Twins still need to find a roster spot for Mastro on the 40-man (maybe they can move DeVries to the 60-day). Anyone know status of Deolis Guerra?

Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Jose Berrios to DL with right elbow contusion. David Hurlbut from Cedar Rapids to Fort Myers. Cole De Vries from Fort Myers to New Britain.
Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Looks like Tim Wood is having shoulder surgery. The Twins can officially remove him from the 40-man (shades of Oliveros) when the offseason happens, probably still keeping him under contract just in case he returns before next season ends. Wood is on the 60-day DL, so technically not on the 40-man. But you're probably right... they'll reinstate him in the offseason and non-tender him. If they want him bad enough to re-sign him, though, they need to wait until after the Rule 5 draft so they don't crap their pants and give him another excessive contract. But the Twins still need to find a roster spot for Mastro on the 40-man (maybe they can move DeVries to the 60-day). Anyone know status of Deolis Guerra? De Vries is active in the minors, so they definitely cannot DL him. Guerra has started throwing again, I believe. The 40-man issue was taken care of when Carroll was traded (which happened since the original post).
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 In his most recent start, JO Berrios was hit by a ball in the elbow. He is not expected to be out for too long.

Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 LHP Miguel Sulbaran, acquired from Dodgers to complete Butera trade, will join Cedar Rapids.
Smcginnity Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Based on his stats, that looks like a decent get for the Twins. A lefty pitcher, me like!
Smcginnity Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Holy crap! He is no. 14 on their top 20 prospects! 2013 Prospect Watch | MLB.com: News
Steven Buhr Verified Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Niko Goodrum joined Jorge Polanco on the Kernels' DL today and the Twins promoted infielder Ryan Walker to the Kernels. Walker was the Twins' 18th round pick in this year's draft. Goodrum has a groin pull.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Tim Wood and Luis Perdomo have been released. Perdomo has been an utter train wreck. Wood hasn't pitched since May. I'm not sure what prompted the Wood realease, was he ready to come back but the Twins had nowhere to put him? Does Perdomo getting his walking papers mean May (Meyer?!) will get bumped to help Rochester for their improbable playoff run?

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I think DeVries was called up Makes sense. I guess that would be the logical choice considering how well he pitched there prior to his three start demotion. The Rochester fans are surely thrilled.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 DeVries was hurt, yes? His games in NB suggest he's gotten himself right. Maybe he can contribute.
