James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Buxton is the starting CF and leadoff hitter for the Twins today on their trip to play the Pirates. Buck started the game by hitting a single up the middle off of A.J. Burnett. He then stole 2nd base and advanced to 3rd on a bad throw from Russel Martin. So far, he's 1 for 1, 1sb and 1 run scored.
Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Current OPS of 2.000 == Hot damn! I keed, but it's nice to see him get some MLB at bats.
Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Noticed that Worley hit Martin in the first and AJ Burnett hit Vargas to begin the second -- retaliation? Were either of these intentional?
James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Noticed that Worley hit Martin in the first and AJ Burnett hit Vargas to begin the second -- retaliation? Were either of these intentional? It sounds like Burnett hitting Vargas was intentional. It was the 1st pitch of the inning and hit him in the leg.
Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I don't recall bad blood between Worley and the Pirates but since he came from Philly, maybe there's something there... I should probably know, but don't.
James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Buxton flies out CF on his second at bat. It didn't sound like a particularly deep fly ball.
edavis0308 Provisional Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Worley letting up a ton of hits but getting a ton of strikeouts today.
James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Worley letting up a ton of hits but getting a ton of strikeouts today. He's giving up a bunch of singles though. Mostly ground balls that have eyes... except for that homer....

James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 3rd AB for Buxton and a strike out. He's now 1 for 3.
ashbury Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 3rd AB for Buxton and a strike out. He's now 1 for 3. He's done. Send him to the minors to work on a few things.
James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Buck draws a walk by laying off an inside curveball with a full count. And then steals 2nd base again.
James Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Buxton ends the day 1 for 4. 1BB, reached on an error, 2 sb and 3 runs scored.
Scheherezade Provisional Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 On the radio, it sounded like Worley's bean was an accident and Burnett's was retaliation.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Buxton could be something special in a few years. It may be one reason why the Twins aren't as concerned about Hicks getting a full year served in 2013.

It didn't sound like any Ben Revere shoe-string catches, but some decent plays. They may also have a plan to sign Hicks to a longer term extension buying out his arbitration years and perhaps a year of free agency. Something similar to the Span contract. If they do something like that, the service clock issue will no longer be an issue.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 On the radio, it sounded like Worley's bean was an accident and Burnett's was retaliation. I think its one of those stupid baseball "codes", that you are not supposed to throw inside during ST. Burnett probably retaliated for Worley pitching inside, even if the actual beanball was accidental. Of course, I could be wrong, there are so many of these stupid, archaic, unwritten rules in baseball, its hard to keep track of all of them.
