Boston scored eight runs in the second tonight, but it illustrates a scoring rule that annoys me sometimes. 

 

The pitcher gives up flyout-walk-homer-reached on error-single-walk-force-single-walk-(pitching change)-homer.

 

I get how the scoring works and that the error should have been the second out, making the force play the third out. But the pitcher still gave up six baserunners (three walks, two singles, and homer), not counting the error, all of which scored. And he's going to end up with a line that's 1.2 innings and only two earned runs. That doesn't speak to how ineffective he really was.

In this day and age I’m sure there are other stats that address that

Why not bring in Duffey here? He's been the best bullpen arm all year and this is when you need to use him.

 

Rocco was going for the lefty on lefty matchups, but yeah I still don't trust Rogers.

What a terrible 0-2 pitch. Rogers just having a really, really difficult season.

actually this is who he is. His success closing was more of a fluke
