nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 I can also say that joining at the same time as Stringer was a great relief as I didn’t feel lost in the woods alone. More than one on the first shot would be ideal.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 We have always done two, but I think that three would also allow the rookies to have camaraderie.I would have gladly welcomed 4 if we could have really reached a consensus on that. Three will be great, two will be good, only one and we need to keep looking.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Btw, I was PMing spycake about something else yesterday, and while I had his attention asked him about why he didn't respond regarding Brock's request. This was his reply: “Sorry. I meant to respond with a decline. I think my participation here is going to be hit-or-miss very soon.” I don't know what that means, and didn't ask, just hoped it was something good, but less of spycake will be too bad for this site.

Too bad.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 Has a final decision been made?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 I think Brock finalized the list and was going to ask them. He's on vacation, so not sure where it stands, but I think it's probably a good idea to get that going first before the game thread good content thing.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Is anyone having 2nd thoughts on Hoskins as a moderator?
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Author Posted August 14, 2019 Is anyone having 2nd thoughts on Hoskins as a moderator? What in particular did Hosken post? I've had second thoughts too about SwainZag and Jorgenswest, documented elsewhere I think. The former has come across as awfully rigid about misbehavior*, nearly as much so as Craig Arko can be. The latter hit me with an accusatory outburst that would not have played out nearly so benignly when in a moderator's capacity. That said, anyone we get will have a learning curve, just as each of us did. A sense of fairness and a willingness to put yourself out-front probably are the things that can't be taught. Perhaps an ability to laugh at oneself, too. * I recognize there is scope for irony with that
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Is anyone having 2nd thoughts on Hoskins as a moderator?I'm not. I don't expect potential moderators to be perfect. I like him because he strikes me as more of a big picture type, he's not extreme in his views. I also think people develop as moderators when it comes to posting. None of us were angels prior to being moderators, I certainly wasn't. I think the more you understand what the overall message is, you tend to adjust in order to help accomplish that. I don't think posters on the fringes are able to do that particularly well, they lurch towards whichever end they already lean to. I think being reasonable and somewhat balanced are the key traits. He also strikes me as reasonably intelligent.

I wouldn't have approved him/her as a moderator for the reasons you stated ... and I find him even more rigid than the others you mentioned. I initially hesitated about Hosken, then relented, and now I'm hesitant again, but, I'm going to go with it. I do think he's thoughtful and intelligent, but, I can't exactly put my finger on it, there's just something that doesn't quite sit well with me. But I go back and forth. it's done now, anyway, if Brock has actually PM'd him. We'll find out as soon as Brock is back from vacation.

That’s my take, it’s also part of what I like about him and also what I think a person like him can adjust if they were a moderator.

From my view, Aggies and some of that crowd brings out the worst in him. But that's not isolated to Hosken.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Swainzag has accepted, will add him to the mod team later today. Can we/should we delete this thread first? I also want to say, that with new moderators coming aboard, I don’t want them being told that they don’t have to help moving articles into forums, or pinning game threads, or moving them to the archives. The new moderators help with EVERYTHING. If current moderators don’t want to, fine, you’ve been grandfathered, but I don’t want the new ones to think this isn’t part of the job.

We will go into more detail as they accept.
