USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 There's always risks with every 40 man move. The risk is not having room to add players that fill other holes on roster, or letting a Derek Rodriguez type go for nothing because we have to keep 2 1B/DH types through the off-season.As I see it, the risk is Falvine decide this is good enough, and the Twins no longer need a 1b/DH.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 He's played less than 20 games in the OF since 2016 so it sounds like Austin playing in the OF is wishful thinking. He only played 1B/DH during his time with the Twins.I would say it's time the Twins buy him an OF glove then. Lol

I assume we're fitting a square peg in a round hole attempting to move Austin to the OF if he pretty much stopped playing out there once he hit AAA.

I simply don't have enough information to know the answer. Which is where Brian and I agree he should have seen some OF time at the end of 2018 in a lost season. I love good defense and believe in it. But Austin was primarily an OF until fairly recently. Did he stink? Or did the Yankees see an OF crunch and decide his best opportunity to make the club was at 1B? Dunno. But the Twins have some pretty nice defensive OF at their disposal. I'm not trolling when I ask if he could be worse than Grossman. If as good/bad/better, could a few games in a corner spot with his bat really be a bad option? I think it's at least worth looking at come ST.

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 ... and why wasn’t he claimed by another team before the Twins?Well it was only 6 teams that passed on him.
