I think you have a few days when someone is traded to you - he lives in DFA-limbo land in the interim. Sept 1 will mean no major league roster shuffling will be needed.

Gimenez was already at AAA for the Cubs, they outrighted him in July.

With Gimenez at AAA, this clears a 40-man spot for the Twins. Although it will probably just be taken by Gimenez in a few days.
