Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Gonna be hard to sign anyone with leverage to a large overslot deal, given the Hughes trade. Yep exactly, more likely go with a college guy first round save a little $ for picks later. Or the less popular route take a slight HS reach with this pick to save on the next pick for a faller. Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I'd say they should give it their best shot. If it doesn't work out, they get the 21st pick next year. Hardly the end of the world. And $3M+ is still a lot of money. losing a pick is a big deal. I can't find anyone on line that has worked in a FO say anything other than that. you lose a year of development, and you lose potential trade chip. It's not as simple as "they get the pick next year" from what I read. gunnarthor 1
Tom Froemming Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I think it's only natural that there's a bit of luster lost after having the No. 1 pick last year, and obviously whoever the Twins get isn't going to have Royce Lewis-type upside, but it's becoming more and more clear that the Twins are going to be able to add a very talented player at 20.

Einstein1 Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Brady Singer at 20 would be sweet.
AZTwin Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Now lets see if they take advantage of it.Last time a top 5 pitcher fell this far, Twins took that pitcher (Kyle Gibson). Mike Trout was selected a few picks later

Just looked through signings from last year. There are a few near 74 where teams saved about 125000- 150000 with the pick and were able to add that amount. There is one case where the Mariners paid well below slot and gained 450000 to add to their pool. Realistically would 500K be enough to make a difference? The difference between top 10 money and slot at 20 is far more than 500K. In fact it is far more than the 74 slot value.
drock2190 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Singer is going to the Royals. Bigger draft pool. Bob Sacamento 1

operation mindcrime Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I really want us to pick a position player!
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Well, this means one of Kowar and McClannahan will be there for us. College arms that could/should move fairly quickly.
caninatl04 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Either Rocker or Turang will be available
Tom Froemming Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Here's hoping Casey Mize has a long and healthy career ... after he gets trade out of the division Ditto to Brady Singer. Mike Sixel 1
drock2190 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 If a top player drops in the draft, its because he wants money and only teams with bigger draft pools can sign him. Twins weren't going to be able to sign him even if he was available at their pick.
Einstein1 Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Lots of nice arms still available. I really like Trevor Larnach too. glunn 1
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Call it now ,,, who’s it gonna be?
Twins33 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Turang is still the guy I want. I'd be okay with a few others too, like Kowar or Rocker. gunnarthor and Tuba 2

GameDay Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 (edited) I'd go college arm with the players left on the board. Either Kowar or McClanahan sound like great options right now. Edited June 5, 2018 by GameDay

gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 You gotta pick Shane, right? He might be another Tyler Jay.
ChrisKnutson Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 There has been talk about picking Osiris Johnson in the Star Tribune, could be a good double play partner for Royce Lewis
