Would ivan nova of the Pirates be a good trade target?

Ivan Nova has 2 years and 18 million left in his contract. could probably be had for a prospect or two. would Businetz and Kohl Stewart be enough? This isnt meant to be our only pitching aquisition either. but him and another starter makes our rotation look good.

He would only exasperate this team's continued inability to miss bats. They need to start addressing that deficiency with every new starter they decide to bring in.

Nova is a pitch to contact type.  He does not miss too many bats and the Twins need pitchers who do so.

the problem isn't he doesn't miss bats. A non strikeout pitcher would be undervalued in the trade market and could be a decent value trade.

 

The problem is that the Twins don't need depth type pitchers that are fairly priced (Nova = 8.5M). The Twins actually have a lot of guys like Gibson (cheap one year arb contract), Mejia and 3-4 prospects that provide pretty good depth. The Twins desperately need a better than average pitcher to slot in front of Berrios and Santana. Neither of these (possibly Berrios someday) are leading a good postseason staff.

 

Must Aim Higher than Nova and concentrate the prospects and cash (8.5M isn't cheap) on a better pitcher.

I'm not a fan of trading from an area of weakness to improve that same area (i.e.trading a pitcher for another pitcher, unless it's a change-of-scenery move).

I'm not particularly interested in Nova. However, I think the Pirates are a great match for the Twins to make a trade with. Especially if the Pirates go with a partial tear-down by trading away McCutchen or Cole.
