His bat has never worked out so he's basically a defensive only player at this point and with Buxton he'd have no clear home in MN but man, it would be fun to see those two in the OF together.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Don't see a fit for him with the Twins. If anything, they need a power RH bat that could be the primary DH, and play in the OF some games.
clutterheart Verified Member Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Not sure I see big difference between Hamilton and Granite (except cost.) I want a Right handed Daniel Palka type who can punish lefties and play RF. That way they can platoon Kepler.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I hate deciding Kepler is a platoon player already....hate it. Absolutely should not happen, even through 2018... at least not until the end of the season if they're in a big spot or something... I do like the idea of having a right-handed backup outfield option for giving starters the occasional day off... but in reality, Zack Granite has had reverse splits at every level coming up and plays good defense. So Hamilton makes not sense. A Jonny Gomes type would be good... Not Gomes, obviously... I don't know if he's even played for a couple of years)... but a right-handed guy who can come off the bench and hit left-handed pitching, or if there's an injury, you don't mind that he's the starter for 10 days or 3 weeks or whatever.
drjim Provisional Member Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I would be really surprised if they start the season with Kepler in a straight platoon. I do think he'll get his fair share of days off against lefties, especially early, but that is just good roster management.

gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 This thread was not meant to seriously suggest Hamilton to the Twins. I just liked the thought of he and Buxton in the same OF.
clutterheart Verified Member Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I hate deciding Kepler is a platoon player already....hate it. Me too. And in the Minors, he hit lefties pretty good. But, the majors are different, if you have a hole in your swing a good MLB pitcher will exploit it. So the FO should be planning for it based off his track record so far. Besides, there is nothing wrong with being a platoon hitter if you mash you Righties. He will still play most days.
cmoss84 Verified Member Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 That would be a fun outfield! Probably a few too many collisions though. As far as picking up another FA outfielder, I actually wouldn't mind a Carlos Gomez reunion on a cheap 1-2 year deal.
