This is good news for the Twins as Statcast likes all the top pitchers. Verlander in particular looks like he's due for positive regression.

Due to his performance, even if the Tigers paid a third of the salary, I doubt they get a huge return. He's getting long in the tooth and last year may be the anomaly. If the Tigers took on 2/3 of the salary, other a package of prospects, likely highlighted by an A-/B+ type prospect should be able to get him.

Personally I wonder if Buxton would get their attention, with Comerica's gigantic outfield. Maybe they'd even eat some salary.

Those suggestions are a little lighter than I would have figured. 

 

Maybe Detroit really is motivated to move him.

 

With the elder Ilitch passing away and leaving the team to his family, we may see some Detroit cost-cutting like we saw with the Pohlads.

That's interesting, but I'm still optimistic on Buck turning it on eventually. I'd rather have a young, light hitting ball hawk CF, than an aging, past his prime SP. But maybe that's just me.

I thought maybe Rosario/Kepler and some prospects going both ways, for balance. I still like Buxton, too.

Verlander's contract has very, very low trade value.

Buxton is a massive overpay for Verlander. He is old and super expensive and not good lately.

On the other hand, Verlander is almost never hurt, and can still dominate at times. Being on a new team might give Verlander a shot of energy. If Detroit is motivated to move him, they will have bidders.
