diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Odds that Gimenez pitches today? I'll go 1:5 odds? The real question is how many innings will he get. I'm setting the over and under 1.1
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Not sure Mr. Turley has either of those pitches. His fastball is above 90 and he's got a nice curve/slider (whatever it is). Trouble is he can't put them where he intends, much of the time, so then he has to come in with a get-me-over pitch, and they tee off. I am assuming the AA batters were putting themselves in the hole by swinging at pitches the major leaguers lay off.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 It's going to be one of those games. That last hit wasn't much of a hit. Found some grass, though.
pierre75275 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Too bad we don't have a fangraphs odds of Gimenez pitching in this game.
David HK Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Turley the Terrible (0-1 ERA 12.46) takes on the Quintessential Quintana (3-8 ERA 5.07) today, outdoor baseball permitting. Look for a close one, probably something on the order of 35-23. Twins favor of course. Outstanding opener, DD. A classic. I'd say more, but I already used a good allotment of my 14K in the wee hours, when the Gf returned from a champagne reception with her colleagues; apparently there were oysters involved, too. Spent a lot of quality words on cooing and reassuring, and got to do that hair-holding thing I'd not done since college, sometime in the Carter Administration. Still knew how to do it properly, tho. Guess it's a skill you never lose. That said-- Turley, sheesh. Maybe we shoulda started Buddy in a bullpen game.
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Do we still have votes for stretching Buddy out as a starter?

I wonder if he's one of those people that just cannot handle the pressure of MLB. I feel bad for the guy but if you can't do the job, well, it's time to find another job.
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Too bad we don't have a fangraphs odds of Gimenez pitching in this game.Or a sports book doing that kind of proposition bet.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Do we still have votes for stretching Buddy out as a starter? He's only given up two runs in 1.1 innings. Still better than Turley. So, yep.
Jerr Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 At the start I was sad for the kids that had to leave on their buses, before this game started.....they were spared this monstrosity of a home game.......their bus driver better buy a lottery ticket.....he/she too is lucky and of age.
Jerr Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Too bad we don't have a fangraphs odds of Gimenez pitching in this game.I was just thinking of the fansgraph of the chance to win this game, in the game wrap thread....wonder if it will be a straight line on the Sox side?
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 To Molitor's credit, he's finally using Belisle in an appropriate situation.

I wonder if he's one of those people that just cannot handle the pressure of MLB. I feel bad for the guy but if you can't do the job, well, it's time to find another job.I sort of doubt that explanation. No other team even gave him a chance to demonstrate his ability to withstand major league pressure. I think they just got tired of hoping his command would ever match his stuff. Minor leaguers will give you free outs, making it hard to trust the numbers when the pitcher has a lot of experience. It is mystifying what the Twins talent evaluators thought they saw. Here's hoping FalVine are using this year to evaluate the evaluators.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 To Molitor's credit, he's finally using Belisle in an appropriate situation.I guess. In my opinion, the appropriate situation is to have him refilling the seed bucket in the bullpen and maybe pulling the tarp off of the bullpen mound.
Whammy Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Just got home from work. Nik Turley.... Missing a "c".... missing.... so much more... No words.....I'm going to start spelling it "Nic" He doesn't deserve a K in his name

bird Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 someday Turley might be ready, but, that day is not today. I hope he's ok after this. I guess it goes to show us once again that putting up decent numbers in AA is not a great indicator that someone can be plunked into the spotlight and look like a MLB player. I mean, how can a guy strike out 15 batters in a AA game and then looked so completely overmatched? Yowzers.

Perhaps this will help us all to slow down in thinking Gonsalves and Romero should be called up directly to the Twins.

bird Verified Member Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 How sad is it that Santiago and his 5.26 ERA looks pretty good right now. How sad is it that Hughes and his 86 MPH FB looks pretty good right now?
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Game's official. Not our night. So far. Come back tomorrow.
glunn Community Moderator Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I hope that the Twins did everything that they could to get today's game declared a rainout. If I were Falvine, I would have encouraged the groundskeepers to turn on the sprinklers all night last night knowing the weather report and today's pitching matchup. Predictably, our starter got killed, and the Twins are going to be exhausted tomorrow and perhaps all weekend in Cleveland.
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Perhaps this will help us all to slow down in thinking Gonsalves and Romero should be called up directly to the Twins. Some few show themselves ready for the Show in AA. I think it requires direct observation of why the player is succeeding. But I am skeptical of 27 year olds feasting against young opponents.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 So that's already 6 hits given up by Breslow... can we say goodbye to him yet? Or does he have to blow a few leads first before he's DFA'd?
