Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Wow, I have never been more shocked in my life /s Seriously, not sure I care anymore. The tv shows are great, and if even half the others are good, that's better than another 1200 page book where only 200 pages matter (I'm looking at you, Jordan and Martin).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 For lack of a better place: That episode was just like the books, an hour of time passed, and nothing happened! Though, I do like that it was heavy on character. I didn't need boring, emotional, walk up scenes here anymore than I did in Star Wars 7.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2017 Author Posted July 17, 2017 Yeah, they can make a filler episode like this because they know we'll still watch but, blah. Not much happened and I think Sansa's one note acting style is going to really rub me the wrong way this year.
jimmer Verified Member Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 It was about setting up the season. I liked it a lot.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 I didn't dislike it, I just didn't love it. It needed, for me, one more plot scene. And, having read so much fantasy, I tire of the plot devices of "we aren't going to communicate with each other at all" and "we won't act on that danger, because you aren't important yet".
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Well. That was an interesting episode. Those are some nice gifts for Cersei.
kab21 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I liked the books more than the TV show but I thought the TV show was also great. And I completely understand why so much was left out of the TV show (some complaints I have read). It would take 40-50 hours to tell just one book and even then they would have to leave out a lot. That would have sucked to watch. I guess my only frustration with the books is that the different stories are all so separate and basically in different worlds most of the time. But it should be interesting to see how they bring everyone together for the finale. Now finish the DAMN books!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 If that's all that happens with the wolves in the books, it will just be another thing mentioned that moves the plot zero....
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 If that's all that happens with the wolves in the books, it will just be another thing mentioned that moves the plot zero....Nah, the Wolves will have a huge part in the battle against the army of the dead. It's one of the few things GRRM has confirmed.

gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 Interesting. I think I heard that, but why can they kill them, if weapons can't? Or can regular weapons kill the weaker undead?I think they'll kill the Wights but not The Others.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 I think they'll kill the Wights but not The Others. I admit I've read so many fantasy books, and it's been so long since I read one of these books , I can't keep the undead (and they barely mention them) straight in this series....

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 The Wights are the dead human zombies, The Others are the White Walkers with blue faces who bring the cold. For some reason I thought there were three levels, but if that's it, I knew that. Thanks.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 I think they'll kill the Wights but not The Others.Alright, John Locke. Maybe if they had Jack, Kate, and Sawyer on their side!
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 Alright, John Locke. Maybe if they had Jack, Kate, and Sawyer on their side! ?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 What if the cure for greyscale is lots of salt and smoking incense?
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 ?The Others on the show LOST. Sorry. I thought it would be an obvious joke, that people here would get.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 The Others on the show LOST. Sorry. I thought it would be an obvious joke, that people here would get. Never saw Lost.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Never saw Lost.First two-three seasons are worth checking out. On Netflix now. Good show, compelling story telling, but they didn't know where it was going and things got weird.
jimmer Verified Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Last nights episode of GOT was very, very good. Lots of stuff happening.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 They are certainly culling the herd. Frankly, I was hoping next year wasn't all about the zombie apocalypse, but there aren't many players left to fight over what remains after winter.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 I liked the Dragonstone stuff for the most part but the Lannister's walking all over Highgarden was not really believable. It was clearly done to make the Lannister's seem to be stronger than than they are so it's not a cake walk for Danny. But at least Olenna Tyrell went out in one last great scene.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 It's amazing how quickly everyone travels in this world.....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Now that's how you use a dragon in war. But why only 1, and why not have the other two attack from the sides or rear? I'm also bored/annoyed that the armies of Westeros can travel the whole continent over and over, but the dead are making no progress, and winter isn't coming South fast enough to get them thinking.

Agreed. Fun episode but the show is coming a bit off the tracks if you pay too much attention. Enjoyed Bran and Littlefinger's scene, a lot.
jimmer Verified Member Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I think the problem is we apply real time to TV time. We dont really know how long it is taking people to get places. Just because Jon Snow talked to Dany in an eposode and then battled later in the same episode doesnt mean that all happened in one day.

How does it take months to sail back to dragonstone, if it only took days to sail that far away? It's clear that time is passing, but it doesn't seem like much is passing. If that's all jon and dany have discussed in months.......

I share your concerns. My theory is that without Dany in the saddle, the other two dragons would kill everyone, friend and foe.As for Westeros I have studied the map, and King's Landing is fairly close to Highgarden. As for the dead, I think that they are heading for the sea to get around the wall. These are all just theories.
